Is Cambodia safe for Americans or should I just visit Thailand instead?

by best-case scenario
I'm an American citizen planning to travel to Cambodia in April and I'm concerned that the heightened anti-American rhetoric coming out of the Cambodian government might make my trip less safe. I could just as easily stay in Thailand. But I'd rather not boycott Cambodia unless my safety is at risk.

Stick to Thailand. Please.
If 230,000 bombing sorties haven't made them rip you Burgers limb-from-limb, some rhetoric from the big man isn't gonna make 'em start now.

In Cambodia only violent thieves will attack you and hit you.
In Thailand only Thai involved in tourism will attack you and hit you (very few street robberies).

Make your choice !

I think you'll be fine. You don't plan to start an NGO or anything like that, do you?

And just tell everyone you're Canadian. :stir:

Cambodia is much safer that Thailand in many respects and the government is not out to get you.

The Thai government, on the other hand, loves to arrest foreigners, for whatever reason.....

The Cambodian people are MUCH nicer than racist Thai people are!

But go to Thailand. Believe the Thai tourism authorities perpetual lie about how great Thailand is. Maybe rent a motorcycle. We can read about you in the news.

If you do come here, don't be a dick and don't bring a fat ass.... it's the beach!

One yank to another.

I always travel Cambodia by off-road motorcycle, which isn't safe in and of itself. I expect I'll have to pay the Golden Lions Circle bribe a few times down in Sihanoukville per usual. But just so long as I can avoid additional entanglements. thanks!

You have a better chance of surviving in Cambodia then America.

Mass killings in Cambodia are few and far between in the last 40 odd years.

If you ever feel threatened in Cambodia just pretend to be Australian.

If you have to ask this question then you are probably the exact type of hipster tourist that Cambodia has way too many of. Stay in Thailand. :dm:
