Dear all,

I am preparing my move to Cambodia 2018 and would like to ask about health Insurance,
I can not find anything decent and affordable on the forum. There is one threat but there is only nonsence

I would like to have some kind of basic health Insurance, I am 54 and Nomans International charges me $1100 a year, which I think is pretty expensive.
A lot are talking about med-evac to thailand, but for me a basic insurance will do. When I have such a heavy accident that they need to fly me to Bangkok, than thats bad luck.

The best option I did find were some german insurances, pretty good = with everything in it for 59,00 a month. For everyone from the EG.

I asked a quote from a Micro Life Insurance in Cambodia as well, but they are calculating now for almost 2 weeks.

Does anyone have good tips?

Most European insurance excludes pre-existing conditions unless otherwise stated. Many of the cheaper policies also do not allow use of private clinics if the local hospital can deal with you. bearing that in mind I spoke to Thai Blue cross. They told me they do cover you in Cambodia, you buy an amount of cover which includes preexisting if you declare it and they will expat you to Thailand if necessary. that was 1 year ago so please check with them. The Royal hospital by the airport is actually part of Bangkok hospital I believe. I do not have insurance. it cost me $35 to see a western doctor if I need to, medicine is cheaper than a prescription at home. Sometimes Calmette is actually more expensive than the hospital I use. Some treatments are not available here so you would have to go to Thailand. I use the St Louis hospital in Bangkok which is a non profit hospital. About $30 to see a specialist for treatment Bumrungrad want $600 for Cambodian hospitals have very limited availability of treatment for head imjuries, Cancer and stroke. Typical costs $250-$500 a day inpatient. Appendix $6000. If you have a serious injury outside of Phnom Penh you will probably be dead before they get you to a competent medical facility anyway

$1100 per year is pretty good value IMHO.

A friend of mine got hit by a tuk tuk. If it was not for insurance she would be dead.

I think it cost well over $250k spent in PP and BKK before she went home.

The OP says that a medevac to Bangkok would be just bad luck. I don't think he has any idea of the cost involved in even a short medevac, it's expensive.
$1100 a year sounds very cheap to me.

Let me get in on this. I too am looking for a policy. Actually, this topic is being discussed at work as we are collectively looking for a policy.

So far, I think we are going to call that broker that lives in Vietnam and have him make a presentation to the staff but nothing is cemented yet, so if there is anyone with knowledge of a good company or a hard-working broker, I would be interested to know.

A policy with motorcycle accident coverage would be fantastic! Anyone?

I use Infinity Insurance (brokers).
Not really got much to say about them as I'm not very knowledge about insurance or that bothered about finding the cheapest possible rate; just want a good value, fair, trustworthy policy. Infinity were easy to deal with and helpful and have a large number of insurance companies to source policies from. Their website enquiry system works efficiently and their office is located near to Independence Monument.
Worth getting some by quotes from if you live in Phnom Penh.

Those tuk tuks are dangerous. What can you do?

They can hardly brake and often it's the tuk tuk (or snotty young car driver) that cuts you off.

guess i am in the minority, dont have insurance, never have.
in 32 years figure i have spent about 50,000 baht ( $1,500) so have come out ahead. I know many disagree
the insurance company is betting u DONT need them and ur paying, thinking you might, but hoping u dont

plus you're in Thailand where decent medical facilities are close by.
