Hi looking for recommendations for clinics/ hospital to have a baby. We’ve been using one near Ratana plaza for check ups and it’s $550 to have a baby in a VIP room there.

Can anyone recommend anywhere else so I can compare it too?

"...$$50 to have a baby in a VIP room there."

Is that a typo or does that sum of money seem suspiciously low or exorbitantly costly to you?

Somphop Sorphea VIP maternity clinic is good, reasonably priced.

Royal PP is fantastic, but very expensive.

I'd give Kampoul Pich Maternity and Gynecology a look see.

I know of a handful of expats who've had babies delivered there.

Off the top of my head I think it's $700 for delivery plus 5 days/6nights including food for the mother and laundry service. If C-section I think it's a cool grand to $1,200 or thereabouts.

Plus the OB/GYN has a gigantic picture of himself with the Big Man so that must be worth something.

550 is quite pricey. Is it your wife's first? I know one guy who spent 3 grand having his in PP.

Yes she’s Cambodian. That price is if she needs a c section. $250 for a normal birth

Both of my children were born at Calmette, much cheaper if I remember correctly. In fact the lady at checkout was upset that she paid the Khmer price and not the foreign one since her husband was a stinking foreigner.

All in all since there were no complications it all went rather smoothly. I'll ask my wife for her impressions and recollections. It wasn't luxurious, not even a private room, but it got the job done.
