SC and I are heading to Siem Reap for a couple of days and meeting up with some friends from home. What are your recommendations of things to see and do in and around Siem Reap? What things should we avoid?

Did anyone have any suggestions? Giblet? Flying Chicken?

I understand they have some sort of old temple complex up that way.

Aww, but we prefer new stuff!

KFC is sorta new,
Hard rock cafe is new, get ur american food fix
stroll down to the river an visit Johns photos exhibit at FCC not new but worth it
take a tuk tuk an grab a boat out to one of the floating villages, ( i like Kampong Phluk) Not new but worth it
visit the sorta new museum, worth the admission price
go for a horseback ride Not new but worth a ride thru the villages

if ur in sr an don't go to Angkor u might as as well as not go.

Outside of that there is nothing in SR u cant get in PP

Cuisine Wat Damnak is my favorite restaurant in the country, it's a bit pricey (set menu for $19 or $26) but worth it for a night out. Mie Cafe is also wonderful, it's Asian fusion made by a Khmer chef who studied in Switzerland at a Michelin-starred restaurant. There's a new place called M'hobe (across from Mie Cafe) that looks good, but I haven't tried it yet.

For activities, don't bother going to the temples when you can just go to Angkor Wat mini-golf.

You should hire my brother, Sophy, who is a Tuk Tuk driver. For about $15 per day he will show you all around Angkor. Younger guy, great knowledge of Angkor and Siem Reap.

I would stay at Happy Guesthouse. My sis, Chorrpoan runs it. Best GH in Asia, IMHO.

Rent 3$ per day, Giant mountain bikes and go ride the dirt tail following the river all the way out to Boeng Tonle Sap. It is about 20KM with plenty of time to stop and observe the people fishing and living along the river.

Korean style BBQ at Temple Club. 1$ Chicken Tacos at Viva!Viva!, along with awesome $1.50 frozen Margis.

Rent bicycles and just go around town. Maybe see the old French District from colonial times.

Bars and pubs all around Pub street.

Happy hour sundown cocktails late afternoon followed by a lovely meal upstairs at Le Palate opposite side of river from FCC was very enjoyable when I was there in April. Countryside mountain biking is what I intend getting into on my next long trip In October.

Your best bet is to contact Hanno from 440, he manages a very good hotel there, and the concierge at his hotel will be able to help you no end.
