Paying Rent and Electricity bill.

So I have an electricity bill I received in my mail box. Whats the easiest way to go about paying it? Do I need to start a bank account at ABA or something or is their a place I can go to pay that's easier.

SO question number two is about paying rent. My landlord lives in Phnom Penh. The real estate agent said to pay them through a bank. Now that its coming closer to paying the second months rent I am wondering how this works. I have their ID card copy on my lease but how do I pay them at a bank if I dont have their account numbers.

I just figured Id ask hear before I started dealing with the real estate agent again.

Help ASAP would be swell. Thanks everyone.

Look closely around your nearest pagoda for a stand that has bundles of riel in it - big ones. Not a money-changer, but probably near them. Approach the vendor and wave your bill at them, they'll either respond by taking your bill and money, and give you a dodgy looking receipt, or point you to the right person.

Are you being serious. At the big Market in Sihanoukville I have seen quite a few of those types of places. So these people will take the bill and money and give it to the electricity company then? Any other way?

Totally serious - the people at the pagoda market have a business relationship with EDC, it's how Khmer pay their bill if they're not near an EDC office. Wing is a newer option too, as someone else mentioned. The good thing about the Khmer method is they'll take payment a day or two past due date, ordinarily you'd have to go to EDC if you're late.

Using an agent will cost you a little small money by the way.

When I pay at Wing, sometimes they charge me 1000 riel, and sometimes not, depending on who serves me :) 25c is nothing for the convenience.

In case you don't know, the EDC office is at the back of the Post Office in Daun Penh.
Afa paying your rent goes, my landlord just comes over each month to pick it up.
The banks don't do do inter transfers electronically here yet I don't think. When I worked at one of the 'universities' here, they paid my money through CPB, but the uni had to go down there with the paper records each month. Lol.

And what about the agent? Surely he will take his cut. Isn't it normal for the Tennant to pay the agent then the agent to pay the landlord?

Maybe thats what I am supposed to do. I could have sworn he said something about putting the money into the landlords account through their bank account so Im not totaly sure. I am just gonna need to talk to my agent.

THanks for the reply!
