Questions about Nannies

I was wondering if anyone has any info on getting a nanny to help look after my 3.5 year old son (he goes to pre-school M-F from 1.30pm- 4.30pm) ? They would need to have at least some basic English proficiency.
What kind of arrangements would be typical, and what would one expect to pay? Does it necessitate a live in arrangement, or would x amount of hours per day involving child care and some housework be a typical thing?
How could one build in some kind of security to any arrangement so you don't find the place empty one day?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
