Bicycle shop recommendation? Need cable made.
Bicycle shop recommendation? Need cable made.
Just tried to head out on my bicycle and the shift cable sheath (not the cable itself) split. Stuck in 9th gear, bike is practically unrideable.
Any good bicycle shop out there someone can recommend that can make a new sheath for me? Walked to a nearby TTP shop but they gave me the "aut mean" treatment.

Sorry to post without answering your specific question, but have you considered cobbling the sheath from a long clutch cable onto it?AE86 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2017 4:07 pm Just tried to head out on my bicycle and the shift cable sheath (not the cable itself) split. The sheaths are way too big from a motorcycle to fit unfortunately.

Re: Bicycle shop recommendation? Need cable made.
There's a family of bicycle mechanics who I use on Street 460 roughly here:
https://goo.gl/maps/1JGf7s8Nhz12 in a town house (not visible on Street view, maybe not opened then) the house has second hand bikes for sale. The husband is handy and used by a few serious cyclists. Worth a shot perhaps.

Cheers guys, I live very close to St. 460 so I'll try there first. I'll post up what happens.

Flying Bikes is still on St. 51 but moved from GSM years ago. Now on St. 51 between 184 and 200. They are probably the best.
Re: Bicycle shop recommendation? Need cable made.
Alright, here's how it went.
I had a new shift cable made at a Giant (brand name) bike shop, but they used a non lined cable (no nylon sheath) and the rear deraileur started binding on me shortly after (getting stuck in high gear again). Took several hours of trying to unbind the deraileur when I figured out it was actually the new cable that was at fault. So I bought a name brand sheath and cable ($15) and made my own. Unfortunately just a few minutes after I installed the new cable I hit a piece of debris while making a turn which jamed itself into the rear deraileur ended up bending itself, the hangar and destroying part of the rear cassette.
Bad luck that, but in short I've discovered that cheap bike parts are really cheap and near useless, and that name brand bike parts are a hell of a lot more expensive. It's going to cost $200 to replace what was damaged, so I'm pretty much throwing the bicycle away to the scrap heap now.
Oh well...
