U-Care in Siem Reap was selling cute little pepper sprays made in Korea. Maybe they still are.

In a casual conversation with a young police captain I was told pepper spray was ok.
No guns of any description, no knives of any size or shape and no stun devices.
Spray & run was his advice.

No but maybe.

A pepper is a capsicum, two peppers are two capsicums, and pepper, or some pepper is the spice. The word pepper (capsicum) is a countable noun. The spice pepper, is an uncountable noun. An individual fruit of the pepper plant (the spice, Piper nigrum) is a peppercorn.

The active ingredient in pepper spray is capsaicin, which is a chemical derived from the fruit of plants in the Capsicum genus, including chilis. Extraction of oleoresin capsicum from peppers requires capsicum to be finely ground, from which capsaicin is then extracted using an organic solvent such as ethanol.

No idea on their legality, but pepper spray is available for less than $10 in pharmacies around Phnom Penh.

But just because something is available here in stores, that doesn't mean it's legal.

I do recall some articles years back talking about women having pepper spray here, and my impression was that it is most likely legal.

Who you wanna mace?

I don't believe it's illegal to carry a ball-point pen or car keys.
