UK Maintains EBA Trade Policy with Cambodia
December 18, 2020
The United Kingdom and Cambodia keeping ties strong
During a meeting with Cambodia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prak Sokhonn, the UK Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia, Tina Redshaw, announced that starting on January 1, 2021, the UK will implement an independent trade policy.
The UK has decided not to replicate the EU’s partial withdrawal of trade preferences under the Everything but Arms (EBA) programme for Cambodia. This is the result of their having taking into account the economic impact of COVID-19 on some of the most vulnerable members of the society, among others, the Kingdom’s garment workers. The EU decision to partially withdraw Cambodia’s duty-free quota-free access to its market became effective last August.
“The UK is exploring ways to establish a regular dialogue with Cambodia’s authorities on issues related to human rights and other freedoms,” Redshaw said.
In response, Prak Sokhonn expressed his high appreciation for the decision by the United Kingdom, considering it as encouraging for the Cambodian government and very good news for workers in the Kingdom who already been so affected by COVID-19’s disastrous impact. He stressed that Cambodia is firmly committed to forging mutually beneficial relations with the UK in bilateral and multilateral areas.
Bilateral trade between Cambodia and the United Kingdom reached $1.05 billion in 2019. Cambodia exports to the UK valued at more than $978 million included mostly bicycles, garments and footwear, according to figures from the Ministry of Commerce.

Re: UK Maintains EBA Trade Policy with Cambodia
Typical British give away. Why? Why suck up to this lot? Most of what is being imported is manufactured with Chinese materials in Chinese owned factories. Fuck 'em.
How about offering them tariff free, quota free exports of their products in return for tariff free, quota free British products, like Rolls Royce, Bentley, Range Rover etc.?
Now that's a trade deal worth doing.

Seems like the UK can't make enough bad decisions this year.

And still 9 days to go, plenty of time for a Brexit cave in.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote: ↑Tue Dec 22, 2020 12:31 pm Seems like the UK can't make enough bad decisions this year.
