'Buy Cambodia Campaign' trade fair is on in Phnom Penh

Commerce Ministry opens third trade fair
27 October 2017
PHNOM PENH - The Ministry of Commerce is hosting its third trade fair of the year as part of its “Buy Cambodian Campaign“ to promote locally made goods.

The fair, which opened yesterday, sees 194 companies at 200 booths in the Sopheak Mongkol Hall of Phnom Penh’s Steung Mean Chey district during its three-day event.
According to Minister of Commerce Pan Sorasak, this campaign is intended to inspire consumers to buy local products in order to limit the amount of imports from abroad and strengthen local manufacturing.

A fourth fair is also scheduled to take place in Kep province on December 21.

What are defined as local products? Anything worth buying?
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Cambodian made products are of low quality. I wish they weren't but my experience is they have a short life span. When quality imptoves I will revert to buying locally made.
Despite what angsta states, it’s clear from reading through his posts that angsta supports the free FreePalestine movement.

Increasing efforts are being made to promote Cambodian quality goods. The Tonle festival is to be held in March 2018.

Festival to promote local products
26 January 2016
In a bid to promote the made-in-Cambodia brand, the Ministry of Commerce is urging local businesses to exhibit their products in the upcoming Tonle Festival, which will be held in Kandal’s Takhmao city on March 8-10.

The Tonle Festival will give local businesses an opportunity to show the country the quality of their products, which are increasingly comparable to products imported from abroad in terms of production standards and packaging, said Seang Thay, spokesman for the ministry.

The event seeks to popularise Khmer products within the country, and support local producers, he said.

“This is the third year the festival is organised, and with every new event we noticed that more and more people are buying and supporting products made in Cambodia,” he said.

Other festivals around the country seek to promote the made-in-Cambodia brand, such as the Sea Festival, said Mr Thay, adding that a similar fair will be taking place in Siem Reap during Khmer New Year celebrations in April.

There are loads of locally made products on supermarket shelves, they all seem to go for premium prices though.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Is there a vegetable stand?

Cambodia imports 500 tons plus of vegetables every day from Vietnam.

Because growing vegetables is a highly-skilled task, which requires years of training, right?

They start with a product...say wine..and they see France et al are getting $6-10/bottle, so the first year they market their beta farmyard version at $11

I guess that's the thinking. As far as I'm concerned, even though many have nice packaging, I haven't been buying them because they cost the same or more than already expensive imported foods.
