Cambodia inaugurates fifth cement plant
By VNA - November 16, 2019

Cambodia put into operation a cement plant with a production capacity of one million tonnes per year in the southwestern province of Kampot on November 14.

The plant is Cambodia’s fifth cement plant and comes in response to the rapid development of the construction sector.

Owned by local conglomerate Thai Boon Roong Cement Co Ltd, it will provide 335 jobs for local workers along with 35 positions for foreigners.

Minister of Mines and Energy Suy Sem said at the inauguration ceremony that the 110 million USD plant is able to produce around 2,500 tonnes per day of two types of cement – “packing cement” and “plastering cement”.

Prime Minister HE presided over the inauguration ceremony, proclaiming that the country will no longer be reliant on imported cement.

Thai Boon isn't in Kampong Trach.

It's by the junction of 41 and 3.

Domestically produced cement can meet local demand
AKP
Cambodia can now produce about 8 million tonnes of cement per year. This volume can cover almost completely cater for the domestic demand from the booming construction sector.

The update was provided by Yos Monirath, Director General of the General Department of Mineral Resources at the Ministry of Mines and Energy during a work progress update press conference held here in Phnom Penh.

The volume of the cement locally produced can save the Kingdom around $500 million every year.

The achievement presents remarkable progress since 2006 and 2007 wherein Cambodia completely imported cement from other countries.

To date, there are five cement manufacturers investing about $800 million in the industry in Cambodia, employing about 2,700 workers.

Siam Cement Group reports slow Q1
04 May 2020 | 22:15 ICT
Thai-listed construction materials producer Siam Cement Group Pcl (SCG) on Monday reported slow growth in the Cambodian construction market during the first quarter (Q1) of this year as the Covid-19 outbreak hammers the sector.

SCG’s Q1 financial report shows that it owned 1,518 billion riel ($380 million) worth of assets in Cambodia, a year-on-year increase of five per cent.

Q1 sales increased seven per cent year-on-year to 272 billion riel, which includes sales from its cement and building materials manufacturing businesses.

Cambodia imported 879,394 tonnes of building materials worth $317.74 million in Q1 to help stabilise the industry in anticipation of the impact made by the pandemic, data from the Ministry of Commerce shows.

Broken down by category, the Kingdom imported 100,440 tonnes of steel worth $66.83 million, cement (384,609 tonnes / $24.57 million) and construction equipment (394,346 tonnes / $226.34 million), data from the Department of Planning Statistics and Trade Information under the ministry’s General Department of Domestic Trade shows.

The Kingdom imported 4,667,077 tonnes of building materials worth $1.70 billion last year, up from 3,181,142 tonnes worth $1.07 billion in 2018.

Erm, no. Not unless you plan for transport of 5000 - 7000 tons per day for plant lifetime, which would be 70-100 years.

That's why all the plants here (and all over the world) are beside a great big limestone quarry.

Some clays and other materials that are not in such demand can be transported to the site alright.

Coal ,,, if that is the heating source to process the limestone, still has to be transported from ???

Indonesia. But small amounts compared to the bulk raw limestone.
