Explain a barfine please?

Can somebody explain to me the point of paying a barfine? A friend was here on holiday and and took a girl from bunny bar on st 104 and paid the $10 barfine and she stole his i-phone and the charger. He went back to the bar the next night and the girl in question was in there chatting up her next customer. He had a drink while waiting for the owner to come down and when he did all he did was give him the $10 barfine back minus the 2 drinks he had drank while waiting for him to come downstairs. He said basically its his word against hers. My friend came to Cambodia 18 months earlier and met and became good friends with owner of the bar so its seems even more odd he would take the word of a bar girl who he said had only worked in his bar 3 nights to someone he thought off as his mate. Is the bunny bar owner right or should he have done more? What do you think?

Damn, that sucks.

A bar fine is just the price you pay the establishment to allow one of his staff members to leave work when their supposed to be there.

Hmmmm..... That's a tough one. Glad he refunded the bar fine.

I assume the bars would all go bust if they were responsible for their staff member's actions off the premises.

Same thing happened to me. A girl from Wat Phnom ????? The monkey's in charge there will not accept responsibility.

Yeah right, oh where have I heard that one before……..
If your friend believed that line, then he was lucky to get away with the loss of only his phone.

You have to watch those monkeys don't steal your phone while your negotiating a price! ;) On a similar vein I think I would prefer the girls hanging around Wat Phnom to those at the Bunny Bar

Re the Bunny Bar thats a difficult one as once she is barfined she is off premises and not working for the bar from that point. I dont think its a good sales pitch though! As the owner stated its his word against hers and it could be that it was stolen by the room maid for example who reasoned the guy had a girl in the room and she could get away with stealing it and the blame could go to the girl. It seems odd that she would steal when i'm sure she would be hoping for repeat business. Of course the punter may have paid her a pittance and pissed her off! If I were the owner I would certainly be confronting the girl and attempting some sort of resolution, its not good business to employ thieving bar girls.

I believe it! She was most likely thrown out of the last bar she worked at for stealing phones off customers

Hah!

Also, I think the OP is good for posting this.

I might not be very inclined to go to a bar that has thieving whores, and one where the owner doesn't seem very concerned (although I still say he's not responsible).

If the word gets around that he's not very proactive in weeding out these problems, he will likely lose some business.

I assume the OP and his friend won't be going there again, and are already telling people about this.

Once he realizes he's losing business over it, I assume he'll take it more seriously.

I would agree if we were dealing with rational people but we aren't and they're probably propping up the bar as we speak.

I agree. I used to have a friend who knew the "woman in charge" and I went once or twice. It's the sort of place you go if you feel Walkabout or GSM are a bit too classy. Sort of like Sophy's used to be without the -ahem "service"
