Is Cambodia bang overpriced for your buck? A mathematical analysis.

This is the part of the forum where we discuss Cambodia's nightlife! While most bars, nightclubs, pubs, beer gardens, and hostess bars are in Phnom Penh, we discuss the Cambodian nightlife across all of Cambodia, including Siem Reap, Kampot, and Sihanoukville. The main nightlife areas in Phnom Penh are on Street 136, Street 130, Street 110 and Street 51, but there are other party spots that aren't girlie bars where expats, tourists, and locals drink until the sun comes up. Feel free to post specials and promotions that relate to nighttime fun!

Is Cambodia bang overpriced for your buck? A mathematical analysis.

Post by Jack.R. »

Last night I red the long discussion and complaints about the high costs charged by the finest of 136.
In particular I was enthralled by the heated arguments regarding if 50$ to 100$ is too much for such services in this country or of it's a fair price.
Which on the surface appears to be a very subjective debate. :chin:
But since service affordability indexes can be calculated and compared to other suppliers of comparable services we can use math to find out who is technically right in the debate! :D

So I decided to do some analysis, make some charts and here are the results!

The table above compares the average prices of services provided in various countries according to data collected on a couple of forums by what looked like to be rather extensive and "in depth" research by the forum members. :D

I compared the service cost to the $ value an average individual in those countries generates pre tax which can be approximated using GDP per Capita figures since we are working on a affordability index it will work better than median income since the GDP data is more reliable and we are not analyzing countries known to have skewed GDP per Capita figures. I also tried to run the numbers adjusted by purchasing power parity and it didn't change much, also PPP would not apply well to this analysis.

So the results are in and it definitely looks like Cambodia is an outlier being rather overpriced compared to other countries and local income. To have the same cost compared to average salaries a comparable service in France would cost over 2000€ while you can find service providers for less than a tenth of that amount.

So what would be the service cost if Cambodia was more in line with the average affordability index?
About 30$

Feel free to use my charts for your future negotiations with your service providers :evil5:

Of course I realise this is a tongue-in-cheek analysis - as big grin emoticons scattered among complex data indicate. So in the same spirit I offer you my critique.

You are right, the service cost in Cambodia isn't in line with the average affordability index - but it is not a lot more it is a lot less. The price in Cambodia not more than $10, that's what my research among local Cambodians and the 'ladies' who serve them tell me.

$100 or $50 are LT/ST tourist prices (depending on your negotiating skills). For example, an American, liaising with an upper end service provider in Soho London would likely pay several hundred of pounds (£1 = 80 cents) imagine a more specific price here), I know of no 136 street Hostess Bars or the like in the UK, but there are 'escorts' for tourists and street walkers for locals available - and they aren't cheap.

Disclaimer: My research should be taken with a dose of skepticism because it's mostly taken directly from my backside.

Prices in tier one chinar a few years ago.

175 for high quality all nighter. Outcall arranged via online.

50 to 100 for a tug or a fuck depending on negotiating skills, the weather, etc. Again, outcall via online.

Plus whatever time and money I didn't have to spend dicking around in some bar.

Short time or long time?
Short time in Europe would be based on 30 minutes, short time in Cambodia is based on 2 hours.
Though they will never stay for 2 hours, they will stay until the job is done!
If they did stay for 2 hours, that would make them a quarter of the price on a hourly rate :ugeek:

Good points made - time is an important consideration, and generally there isn't a rigid limit on it here.

In Amsterdam you get around 20 minutes from the window girls for 100 euros... a euro is about a dollar, (correcting my previous post a pound is about $1.20). So even for tourists Cambodia is a cheap when you take time into account.

It's so long since I went to Amsterdam I had to do some research.

Looks like prices have gone up a bit since the times we used to go to the chicken farm at the Snooky port. Back then I was telling my mate Edgar that I was pissed off cause the Vietnam chick I was screwing there for $5 kept talking to her friend through the cardboard thick walls and even passed a cheap Nokia phone through the gap, putting me right off the vinegar stroke.
As a long time visitor there Edgar put me on the right track, taking me there on his moto and arranging 2 Viet chicks for 10,000 r each so they could talk to each other while you were doing the dirty deed. The one that talked the most got done the most.

Why isn't Thailand included in the list? That would seem a better baseline from which to make comparisons.

Also, you need to factor in what you get, in terms of quality. I doubt you would get anything more than an old rotter in the UK for $100, but in Cambodia $100 gets you something very tasty.

I think Thailand isnt included or the US because some well known US-member hacked the program, hahaha.
Lets all run to Argentina, best bang for the buck if I should believe this document, not for me, I had already more then enough latin drama in my live, no more latinas. And Argentina is the most hated country in south america for sure, maybe thats why they bang for cheap, hahaha.
And in PP I never ever payed 100 dollars, have been asked for it maybe 3 times, but I see it as a polite way from the girl to say # I dont bang you#...
Why either is included Israel inhere ?? The mossad also hacked this page ???
