Will hostess bars let you run up a $674 bill and walk out if you pretend you're interested in buying the bar?

Apparently, yes. After Dark Bar did.

According to other comments on the thread, the guys were allowed to leave promising they would "pay tomorrow." Also, some commenters said they are known for scamming in Siem Reap.

More info: the dudes actually sent some kind of fake wire transfer of funds to buy the bar and had some kind of agreement with the seller that they got some kind of bar tab. Then the wire transfer fell through or bounced or something. Don't sell your business to them, that's my point.

That sounds doable. For the record, for all the bar owners out there, I'm thinking of buying ALL the bars in Phnom Penh. I wonder what they would have called their new bar? "Care Bears Bar"?

Just an observation but are times that desperate these days as far as selling a bar that they let these scam artists run up a $674 bill?? How do you do that? Ring the bell 10 times?

PS. amazing how the dude on the right looks like a dark skinned mirror version of the dude on the left.

How the hell can a bill ever get so high? How many nights of drinking was it?

Single night bar bills exceeding this amount are not that uncommon on Street 130.

It was a Khmer female owner they were dealing with and she thought, from paperwork they showed her, that they had already transferred the funds to buy her bar.

Well she just didn't do due diligence and check her account..easy to do these days via banking app assuming the transfer is in real time. If not, then they should pay before leaving.

Look, I've never run a business here but with all the shit that goes on and apparent to anybody that has spent anytime here...If i was the owner of the bar, I'd be exercising a bit of risk management and asking for progressive payment at...let's say $200..whatever you can afford to lose...business is business. And if these guys don't accept those terms..then, it's a red flag.
