In between bars

What is your favorite in between bar in Phnom Penh? Saigon has quite a few of them. They're not quite hostess bars, but the staff are noticeably friendlier, and more attractive, than the staff of your average pub. And in Saigon, it's not unusual to buy lady drinks for the staff in such establishments, but it is not expected, nor is it the norm.

Larry's on street 110 is a pretty good example of this. Any others that come to mind?

For the company, and entertainment. There are bars that have "hostesses" that are not for "take away" Mings Bistro and Bar for example.

Incidentally they have a great whisky collection and oysters every Wednesday :thumb: :D

Mings has had a huge staff turnover since that photo was taken and no longer has a bunch of attractive chicks.

I prefer Larry's as a place to eat lunch, the staff there are mostly aging and the place is a sausage fest at night. I've you're asking me about borderline hostess bars with eye candy I'd suggest Chaplin's, Riverside Bistro, and The Wall.

But I'm boycotting The Wall for a while because I'm convinced they have taken advantage of my lady drink buying generosity by padding my bills.

Ming's does have a large turnover, and maybe that's because the girls are "snapped up" There is one girl there at the moment that I quite like, but to be honest I take my girlfriend there half the time. Nights vary, sometimes I am the only non Asian customer, other times there are two or three friends of mine around and they often treat the girls to drinks. Last Wednesday I had the oysters and a bottle of Prosecco with an ex of mine that works as a chef in Malasia, which was pretty good.

We all have had that bar bill that doesn't quite sit right and most times if it is $0.50 ot $0.75 out I will pay it but when it creeps up next time I boycott the bar. In some bars that have tried it on I will pay for each drink and when a manager or owner asks why I will say i am sick of getting ripped off. Most bar owners/managers don't support this behavior and would sack the offenders as an expat pissed off takes his mates away as well.
I am not a piss head and don't get smashed so know what i have had to drink and usually what the bill should be.
Same as seeing a bar girl on her day off telling customer that he has to pay bar fine the pocketing the $10 herself . Enterprising yes .....
