FPV groups in Cambodia?

Post by bjack »

Hi!
Flying FPV in & around PP and was wondering if there was any group, club etc? I looked through FB and YT and didn't find anything very active and more specifically a location where people meet and fly.

Do you have any clue on the topic?
Thank you.

I remember reading that they are very tightly restricted in PP. The great and the good don't want people seeing what's going on inside their compounds; Lions roaming, bunga bunga parties etc.

Drones are banned in a lot of areas in PP and several people have been arrested/detained for ignoring the rules. Unless you know it is permitted, best to assume it isn't.

Yes.. First Person View drone, not photography/cinetic drones. It's more tailored at racing and freestyling (flying in all directions 'crazily'?). Though you can make nice movies out of them.

Sorry for using the acronym.

Actually it's not that restricted but you need to be careful where and how you fly, and maybe what you fly... flying a 100g drone with pixelated analog video and no recording is not going to get you in troubles. That is not what bothers the authorities.

Anyway I am not asking for places to fly unauthorized, I'm just looking for people or groups of people doing the same thing and going together to fly in a place where there is nobody (and preferably no water too) outside of Phnom Penh. Maybe the question is better asked now, as I haven't found anything so far (and shops selling drones have no ideas either)?

Thank you.

That sounds about as 'crazily' as watching grass grow or paint dry.

The drone bans don't distinguish between different kinds of drones, and if you fly over the area of a 'Big Bong' and (s)he calls in assistance you won't be greeted by large bellied traffic police in light blue but by the highly trained, extremely well equipped boys in dark green. The same if they spot you flying one in the city. The boys in dark green you probably would like to avoid when messing with the local restrictions. Be careful who you play with.
Anyone flying a drone in "Phnom Penh" (God knows where the borders are, I guess it's bordered by the Phnom Penh-Kandal province border, but I am not sure) needs a permit, so you probably have to go to some remote area in Kandal province (nearest) to avoid the ban.

AFAIK there's no large drone scene in Cambodia, probably because of the restrictions and once you get caught you probably lose your drone and will be 'educated' not to fly one again. I have seen people flying small ones over Yeak Loam lake, but if shit hits the fan there it's a nice swim to rescue your device, assuming it floats long enough for you to get it.
