Cambodian Karate Team Brings Home 7 Medals

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On 5 September 2022, the Karate Federation of Cambodia announced that its karate players in the Thailand Open Karate-DO Championship 2022 won a total of 7 medals from the Championship. This very first victory in the history of Cambodia gives Cambodia high hopes in conjunction with Cambodia hosting the upcoming 32nd SEA Games 2023 which will be held in Cambodia.

Mr. Dek Phea, Deputy Secretary General of the Karate Federation explained that the seven medals which the Cambodian contestants won in this international event include: 3 silver medals and 4 bronze medals.
The silver medals were won by Nguon Sok Kraileng, Sreang Virak, and Chhorn Srey Phea while competing in the individual competition events, while the bronze medals were won by Samnang Oddara, Chrun Virakbot, and Ben Mengly, competing in individual competition events, and Chhorn Srey Phea, Van Chakrya, Lim Sok Vicheka, and Phuong Sophal won a bronze medal won in a team event.

Cambodia Grabs Four Medals at Thailand Open Karate Championship 2023
Phnom Penh, September 14, 2023 --

Cambodia has won four medals, one gold and three bronze, at the Thailand Open Karate Championship 2023 from Sept. 6 to 10 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Ms. Chhorn Sreyphea obtained the gold medal in under-50 kg senior fighting.

The bronze medalists are Mr. Sauth Phanith who won the 75 kg fight, Mr. Chrun Virakboth the 67 kg fight, and Mr. Theng Kimchhea the men’s single fight.

This is the first time that Cambodia has won a gold medal at the Thailand Open Karate Championship.

19th Asian Games: Cambodia Grabs a Karate Medal

The Cambodian women's karate team on Oct. 6 grabbed a bronze medal at the 19th Asia Games in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, the People's Republic of China.

The Cambodian women bronze medal winners for a group women performance discipline are Thath Chhenghuang, Oun Sreyda, and Puthea Sreynoch.

This is the first medal earned by Cambodia at the 19th Asian Games.

China is hosting the 19th Asian Games from Sept. 23 to Oct. 8, 2023.
