Well-Known Aussie Soccer Coach Scott O’ Donnell Hired in Siem Reap

Renowned Australian coach to advice new Siem Reap-based team
Scott O’ Donell, a well-known soccer coach from Australia who formerly headed the Cambodian national team, is back in Cambodian football.

Siem Reap United football club announced yesterday that it hired O’Donell as a team consultant.

“Siem Reap United is honored to officially announce the appointment of Mr Scott O’Donell, the former Cambodia National Team Head Coach and currently a FIFA Coaching Instructor, as the club advisor,” the announcement said.

“We warmly welcomed his come back to Cambodia and look forward to developing and coaching new talents for future Cambodian football,” it added.

As an advisor, O’Donell is expected to be heavily involved in player and team development.

O’Donell, who is currently a FIFA coaching instructor, has managed the Cambodian national football team twice in the past.

His first stint was from 2005 to 2007, where he accumulated a record of two wins, three draws and 10 losses. At that time, the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC) was mired in controversy involving then-FFC President Khek Ravy, which factored in Cambodia’s dismal performances across international competitions.

General Sao Sokha, who replaced Khek as president of FFC, re-hired O’Donell to run the Cambodian team again from 2009 to 2010.
