Prime Minister HE on Friday, March 22, mentioned in his speech at the ground-breaking ceremony for the Phnom Penh- Sihanoukville Expressway that Cambodia would host the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

Cash allocated for sporting development, SEA Games in scope

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) announced it had allocated nearly 3 billion riel (US$750,000) towards more than 40 national sporting federations this year in order to develop the kingdom’s sports sector.

The award was announced by Ouk Sethycheat, Director General of the General Department of Sports at MoEYS, during the closing ceremony of CECS (Coaches Education and Certification System) – Level 1 Course, held recently at the National Olympic Stadium.

According to Mr. Sethycheat, each sporting federation will utilise their budget for the improvement of its human resources, and invest in coaches, referees, etc., administrative development, and the organisation of national level championships. The department hoped the cash would held develop sport both in terms of quantity and quality, as the kingdom gears up for the SEA Games 2023 in Phnom Penh.

Mr. Sethycheat, also President of the Khmer Amateur Athletics Federation, called for partnership of all parties, not only MoEYS and sports federations, but also journalists and stakholders.

“The government invests approximately US$10 million annually in the sports sector,” claimed Mr. Sethycheat.

The 32nd SEA Games in 2023 is scheduled to take place in Phnom Penh and in some provinces including Kampot, Kep, Takeo, Siem Reap, Battambang and Kampong Cham from December 1 to 15, 2023. ... -in-scope/

Cambodia Requests International Cycling Union to Support Cambodian Cycling Federation
AKP Phnom Penh, August 30, 2019 --

Cambodia has requested International Cycling Union (UCI), the world governing boding for sports cycling, to support Cambodian Cycling Federation (CCF) through provision of capacity building for officials and referees.

As said in a news release of the Ministry of Commerce, the request was made by H.E. Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce, while holding talks with Ms. Amina Lanaya, Director General of UCI, in Aigle, Switzerland, where he is paying official visit to UCI to discuss development of sports cycling in Cambodia.

H.E. Pan Sorasak, also President of Cambodian Cycling Federation (CCF), explained Ms. Amina Lanaya that cycling was a popular sports for Cambodian people, yet there are limitations in terms of sending athletes to attend regional and world competitions.

Cambodia is going to host SEA Games in 2023 wherein cycling will be included, and the Kingdom expects to win medals for this sport during the event.

SEA Games ‘an honour’, CAMSOC confirm date

The 32nd Phnom Penh Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2023 will be hosted between May 5 – May 15, 2023. The confirmation was made at the first National Forum for the Promotion of the SEA Games – ASEAN PARA Games 2023 at the under-construction Morodok Techo Stadium on Friday.

Defence Minister General Tea Banh, Chief of National Committee for the 32nd SEA Games 2023, confirmed the date in his opening address to attendees at the event.

Cambodia’s Phnom Penh Olympic Stadium to be renovated to meet FIFA standards

The National Olympic Stadium in Cambodia’s Phnom Penh is set to undergo a major renovation which will help the venue meet the standards set by FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

The Phnom Penh Olympic Stadium has a capacity of 50,000 and currently hosts Cambodia national team’s international football matches, including their 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, as well as domestic and continental matches at club level.

However, with Cambodia set to host the 2023 Southeast Asian Games, the authorities are looking to redevelop the arena to meet FIFA and AFC requirements.

CAMSOC continues to discuss 2023 logo, motto, and theme of the 2023 ASEAN Games

Cambodia News, Phnom Penh: HE Dr Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism and Vice-President of the 32nd Annual SEA Games 2023 (CAMSOC) led the meeting on two key agendas at the weekly meeting on the evening of June 15, 2020.

According to the CAMSOC press release, HE Secretary of State HE Vath Chamroeun said after the meeting that the first item was the decision on the logo and the motto of the Year 2023. Eleven countries including Cambodia will be invited to compete in the Games, and a Cambodian logo has been chosen for 2023.

The second agenda was the 12th edition of the ASEAN Paralympic Games. 2023 After the completion of the SEA Games, the date from 1st to 10th of May 2023, has been retained for the Paralympic edition of the Games.
