Too many useless sports that nobody cares about, in my opinion. The opening ceremonies are sometimes kinda cool, but 98% of the events themselves are of no interest to me.
Here is what the 2004 Olympic venues in Greece look like today. What a waste...

Agreed. My city just hosted the Commonwealth games. It must have cost a fortune. Tarted everywhere up , that tourists might pass through, to give a false impression of the place. Would be money well spent if we got it back in ticket sales, but I doubt it. As some who actually understand the local culture ( as opposed to MP's) the new Sir Chris Hoy velodrome will be a bingo hall in the next 6 months lol.

We'll see if Brazil's double whammy of the new football stadiums for the World Cup and all the Olympic venues will end up looking like Greece's in 10 years. Brazil is a futbol-obsessed nation, but attendance at most of their pre-World Cup stadiums has been surprisingly low for their local professional league matches. I doubt South Africa's World Cup stadiums are faring much better.
