Go Cambodia! Cheering on the 2017 SEA Games team.
PM cheers on SEA Games squad
4 August 2017
- Prime Minister HE received a delegation of more than 270 of the kingdom’s finest athletes and officials to the Peace Palace yesterday ahead of their departure for the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games this month.
Cambodia will look to improve on the solitary gold won in Singapore – the national men’s chinlone squad claiming the kingdom’s only gold medal.
Cambodia took top honours in the four-team, chinlone-linking event of the Sepak Takraw competition after defeating Laos 2-0 in the final. Cambodia also claimed five silvers and nine bronze medals.
Medal winners were rewarded with more than $400,000 and the Prime Minister, a keen golfer, has often stressed the importance his government places on sporting success.
Each Singapore SEA Games gold medallist received $10,000, silver medallists got $7,500, while those bringing home a bronze received $4,000.
Potential prize money for this year’s competitors is yet to be revealed though Mr HE did increase athletes and officials travel allowance from $300 to $500. A total of 276 athletes and officials will represent Cambodia in Kuala Lumpur.

Re: Go Cambodia! Cheering on the 2017 SEA Games team.
The all-time tally of medals for the SEA Games:
Cambodia, who will compete in 24 sports, are keen to improve on the solitary gold won in Singapore – the national men’s Chinlone squad claiming the kingdom’s only gold medal. Cambodia took top honours in the four-team, chinlone-linking event of the Sepak Takraw competition after defeating Laos 2-0 in the final. Cambodia also claimed 5 silvers and 9 bronze medals.
2015 Medal winners were rewarded with more than $400,000 and the Prime Minister, an avid golfer himself, has often stressed the significance his government places on sporting success. Each SEA Games gold medallist is set to receive $10,000, silver medallists can expect $7,500, while those bringing home a bronze will be rewarded with $4,000.
Cambodia’s contingent to the Myanmar edition in 2013 remains the target to beat. There they achieved an all-time high medal count; eight gold medals, 11 silver and 28 bronze.
The kingdom’s best chances of medals are expected to come from sepak takraw, taekwondo, petanque, boxing, tennis, and karate.
The competition, the 29th edition of the Games, will be contested between August 19-30 and features 404 events in 38 sporting disciplines.

Malaysia is so excited about hosting the SEA Games that they have started before the Opening Ceremony:
BUKIT Jalil National Stadium will be a scene of colour, music and celebration on Saturday when the opening ceremony for the 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games officially declares the event underway.
But the action has already started in Kuala Lumpur, with the early matches taking place in the football, netball and water polo competitions.
The first medals of the Games will be handed out on Wednesday, with four up for grabs – two each in archery and sepak takraw – long before the opening ceremony takes place...

Re: Go Cambodia! Cheering on the 2017 SEA Games team.
They have some interesting sports in the SEA Games.
Wushu is a sport derived from Chinese Martial Arts. Even the name “Wushu” comes from the Chinese vocabulary, meaning art of martial. Competitive wushu is composed of two disciplines, which are Taolu (forms)and Sanda. Taolu involves martial art patterns and manoeuvres for which competitors are judged and given points for specific rules. The events of Taolu are basically divided into two categories, which are Barehanded and Armed...
WushuWUSHU (Men’s Daoshu + Gunshu): JOWEN LIM TAKES GOLD
IT was a close tussle between Singapore’s Jowen Lim and Achmad Hulaefi of Indonesia in the men’s Daoshu + Gunshu finals at KLCC on Sunday (Aug 20).
