Canada the 51st State - Lets talk about it.
OPINION: Canada is such a shit show its rediculous. For too long Canadians and our leaders have taken USA, its strength and alliance for granted. We assumed no one could hurt us because USA would protect us. And that was mostly true, at least until we bacame so weak that our protector could take us themselves.
And this idea has the people 'up there' buzzing. For the leaders theres an urgency to work together and unify against a real solid threat. For the masses its time to reflect on who we are and what we are - and there is a solid contingent of Canadians who say - "Why not - how could it ever get any worse - we have nothing to lose!"
Canada needs to get its shit together and fast - except - we cannot. We have a clown prime minister who has actually promised to resign but meanwhile has cancelled the sitting parliament (prorogued) till march - till a new party leader is chosen.
The country has never been in such dissaray through mismanagement. Canada has allowed unchecked ummigration ad totally unsustainable levels so that housing is impossible to find - even if - you can afford it. Our dollar is at an all time low: 1.44 USD.
The clownshow running the government is still fighting about a carbon tax scheme - climate change - womens rights - while we are going up in flames. They think they need to fight strength with strength on Trumps proposed Tarriff's of 25% when in truth we are 10% of the USA population and our GDP per capita is dismal in comparison.
There is one premier - Alberta's Danielle Smith - who has resisted the other premiers organized resistance - has already visited Trump at Mar-A-Lago - and wants to ensure that the oil that comes out of AB will continue to flow for the benefit of her province and the rest of Canada. For that she is being called a traitor by the other premiers (Scott Moe - MB excepted) but the truth is that without her and what her province has, the rest of the premiers are lame ducks.
Trump knows he can take Canada through economic force. He has told Canada to clean up its room - specifically on lax border controls - and drug policies or else - but instead of doing that - the clowns that run Ottawa are lacing up their gloves.
Meanwhile Ontario and the Feds have spent Billions on an "Investment in the Future" with automotive Battery plants in preparation for the expected EV mandates that are now cancelled in the USA.
Canadians are headed for a whole world of Hurt - as if its not already bad enough. They will fight and resist and do way more damage than we can imagine as opposed to rolling over and joining the club as a bright new star on the flag.
Lets talk about it. Keep it on topic.

Why would anyone want to be a US American?
Well obvioulsy the immigrants would, but Uncle Sam don't want them. So I'll rephrase- why would any normal non 'shit-hole' country's citizen want to be a US American?
They are fucking nuts.

Re: Canada the 51st State - Lets talk about it.
If youre living the nightmare that is now Canada you might understand. 10 years ago I might have laced up my boots to join the troops and fight against such a thing - maybe even burn the white house down AGAIN. But really, Canada is broken - it has happened relatively quickly. It is now obvious for all to see. The reality is, we have nothing to be proud of, and we have nothing to hold onto anymore. Trudeau is famous for his claim that Canada is the first post national state. He's also famous for saying he is embarrassed by the white Christian european heritage and wanted to change it. And he has. The result is "Invite the third world - become the third world" Its important to note that this has all happened to Canada and Canadians by design - because our leaders have been taking their guidance and ideals from Globalist elites and organizations instead of listening to the actual Canadian people who - in a properly functioning democracy should hold the power and control the decision making process. They do not. Canada is a socialist shithole.Cameron Newbe wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 7:22 pm Why would anyone want to be a US American?

Re: Canada the 51st State - Lets talk about it.
Is the USA in such good shape that it can legitimately look down on Canada? Or any of its most stable allies?
Is Canada in such bad state that any of its citizens genuinely perceive the USA as being superior?
Or is this a perception of numbers thing?
Add the 10 provinces and territories to the US, by area alone, would realistically make at least 60+ states. I got the impression that the US had difficulties managing the 50 that are already there.
And then there’s the French (Quebecy bit)
As a bar room discussion, it might be fun if you like that sort of thing. Beats butt darts.

Having actually served for 20 years, I have a shocking discovery for you. A large amount of my colleagues (est. ~30%) were either immigrants or more often 1st gen children of them. They were also the type who stuck it out in crap conditions for the whole career as opposed to the "four years and done with this #%^&" crowd.

Theres a lot of nuance, and practical considerations - yes - Canada could never be only 1 USA state. Canada is so vast, and diverse too, we are very different from east to west.
The Quebeck fuckerz .. dont get me started there - its a huge problem. If USA could just take that off our hands everything else would already be much better. Chrissakes - they have a federal political party that only exists in the province and sways all the voting power away from the official opposition and they are the reason that Trudeau could hold power with barely 30% of the votes for the last 2 elections with a minority government.
It is definitely a numbers thing, Canada has approximately 10% of the populaiton of the USA spread across the second largest land mass of any other country (russia excluded) and because of that, everything is way more expensive. Add to that the socialist policies that have taxed Canadians to their limits and the arguements for it (socialized health care for one) are crumbling - our infrastructure is not just at its limits it is failing to deliver - it cannot deliver.
The output of every Canadian worker compared to every worker in the USA is pathetically inferior.
Poilievre (Canada's next Prime Minister) has his work cut out for him and he has admitted that in this attached video. He lays out the grim economic arguements well.
For the people that get tripped up that the interviewer is Jordan Peterson, it has nothing to do with him so give it a break. The interview is about what Poilievre has to say. Well worth a listen if you want to understand the political climate in Canada in 2025.

The old star spangled banner would maybe seem appealing. I know a few Brits/Irish and even French who have taken the US citizenship. Shit, I know plenty who have done the British thing, even though they were born there. (My mate John, who was of high ranking Aussie stock, but whose parents never bothered with the passport, despite being born and raised in Hackney, at 50 years old getting a certificate from the mayor, surrounded by proud Arabs and Indians in his citizenship class).
But anyway, still nonsense. If a Canadian wants to be a US American, then it's not that difficult. Will California decide it's better of alone? More likely.

Re: Canada the 51st State - Lets talk about it.
I get confused when you refer to Canadians as they and we. It would be much easier to follow your opinion if you were to choose the pronoun that identifies yourself, if you identify as Canadian, you would use we, if you do not then they would be the appropriate pronoun.David Gordon wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 7:06 pm OPINION: Canada is such a shit show its rediculous. This androgynous, pronoun changing to suit your agenda reminds me much of a man who identifies as he amongst his straight friends and she amongst his closest friends.
Re: Canada the 51st State - Lets talk about it.
Your whole tone, Gordon, is infected with the sort of doggerel foam-at-the-mouth blather one would expect from a fake like Russell Brand, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Joe Rogan, Sean Hannity, etc, etc...
Stop! Your sweeping generalizations are both annoying and largely misleading. Without the constant influx of immigrants Canada's economy would not grow in the traditional conservative economic sense; and certainly, without immigrants, Canada's population would decline. The birthrate in Canada has been around 1.2 for years, but in rabbity Xtian America to the south, it's been closer to 2.0. This is the demographic reason for admitting "so many" immigrants to Canada. Your family and mine were once immigrants, just like Trump's and all the awful white supremacist dingbat thugs he just broke out of jail..!
Poilievre is a copycat conservative — no original anything. Last week, he had a meeting with some of Canada's richest. . .
https://www.instagram.com/reel/DE5SQiwyNN3/
What about Quebec? "Don't get you started?" On what!? It's a French-speaking province. So what?
Your whole tone is a bland reflection of the weird isolationist xenophobia that Trump and his silly minions are feeding to the ignorant, illiterate and uneducated masses. America is in very very sorry shape, pal. Go for a drive in LA or Philly or West Virginia. You won't be impressed with the state of things, pal.
Odd, how the mass media can't even call out Trump for what he really is: a backwards-looking xenophobe who will reward the richest — always — first!
There is no medical care in the United States if you are too poor. There's nothing. The poor and listless middle class have to join the military in the U.S. just to get a "free education" and "free medical treatment" for life! Wow, what a great reason to risk life and limb, because there's no social net of any kind! Isn't that a superior paradise!? Join the army, get killed! Fantastic patriotic idiocy!
So go there, be my guest man. Witness the Quebecers in Florida who are all selling their condos to move back to Canada. Who wants to pay a "condo fee" of $900 dollars a MONTH? For what, for some obese homeboy to raise the American flag and mow your lawn every week!? Or, paint the fence once a year?
Beer is cheaper in the States, it's true. Maybe that's a good reason to force Canada to join the states? The moronic premier of Alberta sucked up to Trump, but what for!? If he imposes tariffs on everything from Canada for no reason — is the oil economy somehow sacred enough to disregard their impact on the rest of Canada!? She's an embarrassing idiot.
Yes, you ARE a political animal — why not crawl back into your burrow and go back to sleep and stop being annoying and silly by besmirching Canada's sovereignty? As if there is any way you can advocate for anything Trump is proposing anywhere in the world. Come on! Shut off the podcasts and open your eyes! It's all a load of blabbering rubbish! Give him the peace prize if he stops the Russo-Ukraine War, sure. . . But if not, should we let him illegally legislate a third term for himself and his billionaire prick friends?
I used to remember that there was a song by John Lennon called "Imagine" but that isn't rude and nasty and boorish enough for talk radio!
(Hey, Trump just had yet another brainwave! Let's move all the Palestinians into Jordan and Egypt! Great idea, I am sure Jordan and Egypt will be overjoyed at the plan. Hell, instead, why not ask Musk to buy Cyprus and move all the Jews there? No more war, at least! Hell yeah. Trump should suggest THAT! Why doesn't he?)

Re: Canada the 51st State - Lets talk about it.
https://www.visualcapitalist.com/how-ca ... 1st-state/
I identify as Canadian and use the pronoun we when referring to Canadians or Canada.
Canada’s GDP would rank behind only California, Texas, and New York. We would be the 4th largest economy by state.
Only 7.7% of Canadians own guns, we would be the least armed state.
The U.S. has an average of 7 murders per 100,000 people. In Canada, the rate is 2 per 100,000. We would be the third safest state in the union.
Canadians have a life expectancy of 81.7 years at birth compared to the U.S. average of 77.
We would be the longest living state.
Canada would lead in the share of adults with college degrees, at 58%, compared to 36% in the United States. We would be the most educated state.
My question is why anyone in their right mind would want to give up their Canadian citizenship in order to join a less educated, more violent society?
