US Death toll now higher than Vietnam War

In the course of the Vietnam War, 58,220 American soldiers died or were missing and presumed dead.
As of yesterday, U.S. Covid-19 deaths stood at 58,355.
I thought it was a sobering milestone and worthy of note to our American members.

Pfff that’s nothing 5 children die every minute from malnutrition. Time for this virus to up its game I think.

It's a meaningless statistic except it's to the point that China owes us for 58000 dead citizens. my kid lives and works in Shanghai, and I told her I would give her notice before we dropped smart bombs in her neighborhood.

That's a little misleading.
War kills virile young men and women in the prime of their lives.
I would venture to guess that Covid-19 kills many with pre existing conditions and ailments that would have taken them out this year or the next regardless of Covid-19. That along with the elderly, etc.
Did Covid-19 take out healthy, virile people as well? Probably some.
But to compare it to warfare is disingenuous.

In a month or so the cost of this epidemic will be higher than the cost of the Vietnam war too.

Lets deduct the costs of bombs dropped on Lao and Cambodia and revise those Vietnam war costs.
