but is still falling short in many areas, an annual report has found.

Life expectancy, employment and literacy rates all remain lower for indigenous Australians, according to the Closing The Gap report.

Yep shameful, Australia.

Finally tho' - they have a PM who has just yesterday admitted to himself, the nation and the Aborigines, No More!
- "we have to start involving the Aborigines themselves in the decision making process (Ding.. lightbulb)
throwing billions at the problem (mostly going to whitefellas) in the ignorant paternalist way that we have for the last 250 years is obviously a total failure."
or words to that effect

NZ got off to a much better start by recognising Maori sovereignty and making treaties.
This resulted in the Maori having much greater input into their own destiny.

Whether this market driven, fundamentalist christian, advertising executive, smart-arse-know-it-all PM will actually follow through is another question.

And how are the maoris doing now? did the input get them high paying jobs, wealth and success? How are they treated by the white settlers who bough the place? On the up?
