Great news!! :beer3:
YANGON—As an initial phase of implementing its new tourism strategy, the tourism ministry launched a free-visa system for tourists from Japan, South Korean and China’s Hong Kong and Macau on Monday. The move is likely to be followed in the coming years by the lifting of visa requirements for citizens of another 21 countries—especially western countries—in an effort to counter the fall in tourist arrivals to the country since the 2017 Rohingya crisis.

The relaxing of visa stipulations for visitors from western countries has been lobbied by the Myanmar Tourism Federation (MTF) to the National League for Democracy (NLD) government since early this year. MTF’s vice chairman U Khin Aung Tun told The Irrawaddy that included those from France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Australia, UK and US, Russia and India as well as a few Scandinavian countries.

U Khin Aung Tun said that his association has urged the government to shift visa application barriers for the aforementioned 21 countries starting from early 2019 and the new approach is under consideration at the Union government.

The worst part for expatriate is that Myanmar give visa for only 70 day and one cannot apply for extension until unless that person have entered the country several times.

Your title is a trifle optimistic IMO. I was all excited by the news, but Im not from Japan or South Korea, so may have to wait a few years before this happens. It's an announcement, but let's wait for the follow-up. :whistler:

Tourists visa online is $50 valid for 28 days, overstay up to 30 days is only $3/day ( $5/day 30-90 days) and no hassle, (although you might have trouble finding a hotel/gh to allow you to stay ) and u cant fly domestically.
You can leave an come back with another visa as many times as you like..

Business visas ( $50 valid VOA for 70 days or $70 online) can be extended up to 6 months first time and 1 year in country 2nd year an donwards and is available on arrival if you have the correct paperwork, ( Letter of Invitation to you from a registered company & Company Registration of inviting company)

Funny.

I remember 1st time in went there like 15 years ago. I thought I was gonna stay there ages. Left after a few weeks....

I found it already run over by Tourists. The local kids speaking pretty good Spanish to sell to the bus loads going to the sight....

I thought ifor anyone was looking for a cheap far out place, then India was where to go. Myanmar is interesting but too expensive and infrastructure poor.
