Headlines Burma ( yes Aung san says you can say Burma)
things are heating upBurmese leader Aung San Suu Kyi has made clear to foreign diplomats, it does not matter if they call her country Myanmar or its old name, Burma.
Ms Suu Kyi gave her position in a speech to the foreign diplomatic corps. She is the government's de facto leader in the specially created post of state counsellor, but is concurrently foreign minister.
This week the Tatmadaw alarmed the nation by threatening to seize power and abolish the constitution,
Frontier friday NewsletterThe Tatmadaw has thrown Myanmar's political landscape into turmoil by threatening a coup against the civilian government, due to its refusal to entertain the military's unsubstantiated accusations of voter fraud. First, military spokesman Brigadier General Zaw Min Tun refused to rule out a coup during a press conference on Tuesday. The following day, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing threatened to abolish the constitution. “The constitution is the Mother Law. We have to follow the constitution. If the law is not respected or followed, we must abolish it. Even if it is the constitution, we must abolish it. Even in times of the Revolutionary Council, the 1947 constitution was abolished,” he said, adding the State Law and Order Restoration Council also abolished the 1974 constitution.
Adding to the tension are multiple reports of armoured vehicles patrolling downtown areas of Yangon, Kachin's Bhamo Township, and Sagaing's Kantbalu. The Union Daily, official newspaper of the pro-military Union Solidarity and Development Party, confirmed the movements in Bhamo, but claimed it was a routine test drive to “check if they were functional”. Perhaps more worryingly, last night a large number of police arrived at the municipal guesthouse in Nay Pyi Taw where lawmakers are quarantining ahead of the opening of parliament on Monday. Some of the MPs told Frontier they thought the police had arrived to arrest them, but for now it appears that’s not the case. Still, everyone is clearly on edge and it’s very unclear whether the security forces will let them go to the parliament building on Monday.
A coup now seems much more likely than it was a few days ago. It doesn't seem to make logical sense for the military to upend the current order. The current system was carefully crafted by the former military junta to ensure that it continues to hold a large amount of power (not to mention many business interests) while evading civilian oversight, any serious international sanctions or accountability for senior members. The Tatmadaw may be using these threats as leverage in negotiations, or simply to make the NLD feel insecure in its power. But at the same time, the more the situation escalates, the harder it will be for the military to back down, and it's possible the Tatmadaw is no longer acting logically. As political analyst Richard Horsey notes: "the next 72 hours will be pivotal".

Good news
https://www.irrawaddy.com/news/burma/my ... -says.htmlThe office of Myanmar’s military chief announced on Saturday that the armed forces will respect the Constitution and act lawfully, in an apparent effort to ease the ongoing political tension between the government and military over electoral disputes and the perceived threat of a coup.
Since early last week, Myanmar has been gripped by speculation that another military takeover was on the way. Military spokesman Major General Zaw Min Tun refused, during a press conference on Tuesday, to rule out the possibility of a coup if the military’s claims of mass fraud in the November election were not addressed. The following day, military chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing told his subordinates the military-drafted 2008 Constitution should be revoked if its laws are not being followed. Military officials had complained about the government’s silence on their fraud claims, so the senior general’s remark was widely interpreted as a threat to stage a coup, as a military takeover would likely mean the abolition of the Constitution.

It looks to me like it was meant to be a strong message. Especially with the visuals of rolling out the razor wire and troops on the street.
"Don't go too far and don't mess with us or we will simply take over again. Do Not ever forget that we can and will do that any time we choose"
I don't get the impression that they were seriously contemplating that option in this instance. Just a powerful naked threat before the next sesh of parliament begins.

https://currently.att.yahoo.com/att/mya ... 44084.htmlMyanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other top government figures have been detained, a spokesman for the governing National League for Democracy told CNN on Monday.
"State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and some other senior figures are being detained in Nay Pyi Taw," spokesman Myo Nyunt said.
The move comes after days of escalating tension between the civilian government and the powerful military, in the aftermath of an election the army says was fraudulent, Reuters reported.
State tv & radio ( MRTV) is down, internet is down, mobile phone down.
First step in a coup...control the media
It is a good time as Aung San is not as popular now as she was pre 2017 concerning her not standing up for the Rohingya
Hope they can work it out and Burma does not slip back into its military controlled past

Really no difference between Myannmar, Thailand and Cambodia, military or military supported facades of democracy. All for the obscene richment of an elite, the region is going backwards politically and democratically.
