I don't know much about "kills", artillery and army stuff, but even I can appreciate how hard it must be to hit a relatively small target from 3 km's away with a rifle. The bullet took 10 seconds to get there.

New York: A Canadian soldier in Iraq has killed an Islamic State militant from more than three kilometres away, shattering the world record for a confirmed sniper kill in military history.

According to Toronto's Globe and Mail newspaper, the gun specialist from the elite Joint Task Force 2 achieved the feat with a shot from a high-rise during an operation within the past 30 days.

I'm calling that a part of the ''fake news '' until someone comes up with a report better than this,,,,

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Military and law enforcement agencies have big budgets and huge resources at their disposal and it is of interest to note what calibres and bullet design have been narrowed down for professional snipers the world over.

Military snipers especially operate at long range. The furthest successful shots recorded by a sniper in Iraq was when he killed two mortar personnel with two shots at a staggering range of 1050 yards using a .308 (7.62x61mm) calibre sniper rifle

It's not bullshit, it's been reported in several reputable newspapers already. The kill and distance were confirmed from other vantage points by both Canadians and Americans. It's a staggering distance : think picking someone off at Aeon mall when you're at the Japanese bridge roundabout (if it were a straight line).

I cross referenced the story with numerous reputable other sources before posting, with the lead coming from The Sydney Morning Herald

Lap it up.

Yeah right, newspapers never print propaganda or flat-out fake news.

That is sooooo fake news. The guy was likely aiming at a group, and the bullet accidently fell on them and managed to hit someone.:

The fox articles says:

""The Canadian Special Operations Command can confirm that a member of the Joint Task Force 2 successfully hit a target from 3,540 metres [2.2 miles]," the Canadian military said in a statement

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/06/22/ca ... ighter.htm

3,540 metres is 3871.39 yards.

The Tac-50 LRSW has an effective firing range of 1,800 m (1,970 yd)
That means it was 1,901 yards - that's almost 2 klm - out of it's effective range. Even liberal estimates give it a max effective range of 2,200 yards.
The .50 rounds, first developed in 1910, will go for around 5.5 miles though, but not accurately.

You obviously don't know what you're talking about and have never had any military training. No one follows the paper range of any weapon to the letter. An AR15 has a very limited range, but with a modified barrel and different grain loads, will easily double the range and do 1000m+. These guys pack their ammunition themselves (they're not just given standard NATO rounds out of a box) and know their shit. Remember, he was in a high rise so it adds considerably to the range of a .50.
