Yesterday, an Australian man made a daring escape by tunnel from Bali's notorious Kerobokan prison. Sounds cool, you go man. :thumb: Freedom

Then you find out that the idiot was in there doing one year for passport fraud and he had two and a half months left to serve, and you wonder.

An Australian man has allegedly escaped Bali's Kerobokan prison, after he and three other foreign inmates are believed to have dug a 12-metre long tunnel underneath one of the jail's walls, police say.

Shaun Davidson, 33, from Perth was sentenced to one year in Kerobokan last September for immigration offences after he used another man's passport.

He is among four foreign prisoners who allegedly made a brazen escape on Monday sometime after 6.30am, police said.

Now he has to escape the country... Now that would be a daring feat. What a weird thing to do so close to being out.

2.5 mths left to serve for a fairly minor crime, what a fukn idiot! He will most likely be caught by the authorities and end up spending several years behind bars now (cue the snowflakes and Aussie politicians crying for his release, maybe even a Gofundme type appeal).

How they escaped :

Officials have revealed that a cable to the jail’s CCTV cameras in the area of the escape had been cut and iron bars were found near the tunnel.
“The CCTV is not working. The cable is cut. We don’t know know (who cut it). We just realised this morning it’s not working,” Mr Pasaribu said.

He said the four escapees had escaped from the roof of B Block or Bedugal block, jumped the fence of the block to behind the jail’s clinic, where the hole was discovered.

It is understood the tunnel used to escape was an existing water drainage tunnel. It is believed to be about 15 metres long.

Authorities believe the escape happened sometime after 6.30am local time (8.30am AEST) this morning. One of the four escapees, the Indian man, was seen by another inmate at the jail at 6.30am, authorities said

Badung Police chief, Yudith Satriya Hananta, said police had put a ban on any of the four escapees from exiting Bali through any travel gates.

Unless you've got friends in a boat waiting for you on some secluded beach, I don't see how they can leave the country. Will your embassy protect you and fly you out if you manage to reach it before they catch you?

Not even if you're a semi-cute dumb girl with a dodgy boogie board.

Apparently he's wanted in Australia. Depending on the severity of his crimes in Australia may explain his reasons for the escape.

Or he's just a fucking idiot.

Sounds reasonable - Australian and Indonesian authorities cooperate with each other in terms of prisoner transfer.

Speculation they may have drowned in the escape tunnel.
Bali police are investigating whether four foreign inmates, including an Australian man, drowned as they tried to dig their way out of Kerobokan Prison.

A police diver attempted to check the tunnel today but discovered it was unstable and flooded with water.

Badung Police Chief Yudith Satriya Hananta said police did find a fork inside but there was no sign of the prisoners.

There are now fears the inmates are trapped or possibly could have drowned.

Police are working to drain the tunnel as part of investigations.

If these guys did get away I don't think getting a fishing boat across the Malacca Straits into Malaysia would be too much trouble if you have some money, and then on further into SEA is pretty simple from all accounts. Establish a new identity, bury your self in India working for a gang of counterfeiters in Mumbai, make friends, live in a slum and treat the poor, fall in love.....write a book and retire wealthy.
