Plenty has been written on the subject far more recently because the Gaucho of the Vatican wants

As with almost all religions, its about power, control and money/wealth, in that order. The Vatican is setting on untold wealth, but makes poor people contribute to them and is/was against birth control so members would make more members. Here and there they do some good, but mostly its about pushing their doctrine and power, control, money/wealth.
