The British Embassy in Phnom Penh is part of a world-wide network of 230 Posts, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas.

We are currently looking to recruit a Head of UKTI – Grade C4(L) to join our dynamic team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the British Embassy Phnom Penh working as part of the UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) ASEAN network that is at the forefront of the British Government’s growth agenda. The successful candidate will work to help UK companies win more business in Cambodia.

As a senior member of the embassy and UKTI’s regional leadership team, the Head of UKTI will be reporting directly to the Ambassador and to the UKTI ASEAN regional board. S/he will support the Ambassador and broader team in forward planning. S/he will play a lead role in representing the UK’s commercial interests in Cambodia by developing and implementing priority sector strategies that identify and target opportunities for British companies.

The jobholder will advise and assist British company executives on a wide range of areas including strategy development, business development, supply chain, business model and market entry approaches for success in Cambodia. Key to being effective in this role will be the ability to build and maintain an extensive network of relationships relevant to British businesses.

Main Responsibilities

Provide quality advice and support to British companies present in Cambodia.
Manage the UKTI Strategic Partners programme. Support British companies that are currently exporting or are interested in exporting to Cambodia.

Develop deep knowledge of and contacts in Cambodia’s business community, specifically in the education, energy, agriculture, construction, and the financial service sectors in order to support British commercial interests.

Support the Ambassador and team in advocating the Royal Government of Cambodia to move towards rules based economic system leading to sustainable economic development and an improved business environment for UK business. Also lead or support the Ambassador on company or sector specific advocacy efforts.

Provide bespoke market research, intelligence, networks and market introduction services to British companies. Meet or exceed UKTI targets for service deliveries including “significant assists”, “overseas market introduction services”, “business opportunities” and “business wins”.

Raise the level of awareness and profile of the Cambodian market as an export and investment destination for British businesses in the UK and throughout the ASEAN region. Provide market overviews and participate in road shows in the UK. Attend regional trade shows and trade missions to present and discuss the opportunities and challenges of doing business in Cambodia. Identify and publish “business opportunities” and organise and conduct webinars. Attract trade delegations to come to Cambodia as appropriate to the market.

Identify niche areas of opportunity and push UKTI HQ and other colleagues to help market these to relevant and targeted UK companies. Revise sector strategies in priority sectors and target contact points in UKTI and elsewhere in the UK to spread the word.

Manage relationship with the British Chamber of Commerce and specifically it’s Overseas Business Network Initiative. Support the Executive Director of the British Chamber to meet its Overseas Business Network Initiative targets. Manage reporting and budgetary function.

Take ownership and lead role in designing and delivering programmes for visiting trade and commercial related senior officials.

Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree

Fluent in spoken and written English
A confident public speaker and communicator; able to develop relationships at the highest levels of government and business

A well developed commercial background and business acumen

(Desirable requirements)

A strong understanding of the leading industry players and established contacts in Cambodia

Self-motivated and tenacious with a strong business development or marketing background

Excellent networking skills, and experienced in key account management

An engaging, flexible and confident personality; able to demonstrate passion, charm, vision and influence
Good knowledge or understanding of UK and Cambodian private and public sector business cultures

The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, including salary, benefits, leave entitlement and training opportunities.
We also offer 18 days of leave entitlement per annum pro rata.
