$1000/pm at Wat Phnom sounds expensive to me. It's not an area I would start negotiating with a price like that. It's a shame because the owner obviously fronted good capital on renovations, just in the wrong place...

Depends on what the person is doing living here. Personally I think for a developing country prices are expensive overall. If going by living wage I find it hard to see how after eating, the average Khmer can live.

Many (perhaps most) disagree with you. The price is seen as directly corresponding to the location. Perhaps you've heard this? Location, location, location? As an estate agent surely you know that houses in Steung Meanchey, for example are not as expensive as houses in better areas?
