In Sihanoukville:

A friend of mine just built a bunch of two bedroom bungalows in-town in Sihanoukville and they are now for lease/rent. They come with 32" flat screen TV, overstuffed furniture, cable TV, WiFi, security.

He can be reached at 097-67-0000-7/098-55-443 or he owns the car repair garage across from the small market, down the street from the Kangaroo Kitchen Bar. Ask for Mr. Hout (he speaks good English)and tell them "grandfather" sent you in. (I get no money for any of this, he's just a good friend.)

You couldn't ask for a better person to be your landlord. He is one of two people here in Cambodia I would trust with my life. (the other is his nephew.) He doesn't smoke, drink, chase women, works 12 hours a day 7 days a week, and even though he has a bunch of people working for him he still gets his hands dirty.

Sailorman: I might be interested. The 87 stairs up to my joint are getting old. Do you know where they are and how much ?

I'm not sure about the price but they are house's/bungalows which are nicely furnished so not in the cheap apartment range, but probably more like renting a house. If you go past CT clinic headed out of town, then just past Cheers hotel/bar you take a left down a side road. (I remember there is some kind of boxing gym at the beginning of the street.)

Mr. Hout is at his car repair garage almost across the street from the small market. I'm sure he would have no problem showing them to you. He is really a nice person, and tell them "grandfather" sent you. (he'll know.) He and his nephew (Hang) are almost always at the garage and speak English very well.

The little minxes working on the building site across the road have just taken to calling me 'grandfather'... I'm taking it as a term of respect. Same for you?

I'll ask price next time I see him. Yes, "Grandfather" is a term of respect, at least from my adopted "grandson." (nephew that is garage manager.) I'd move into a bungalow there in a New York minute, but have a 4 year lease were I'm at and my present landlord is kind of a jerk.

The new two bedroom, two bath two aircon bungalows are $450. a month. First months/last months for move in. This includes: 24 hour security, internet, cable TV/flat screen TV, garbage pickup, beds, overstuffed front room furniture, refrigerator, cooker. Electric is 1000 riel a kh. The compound has a wall around it with front gate and large central lawn with small lawns at most bungalows and room for outdoor table/chairs/bar-b-q beside bungalow. You couldn't ask for a nicer, more honest landlord than Mr. Hout

Where I live the landlord has new bungalows for $420. that aren't half as nice with no included internet, no included flat screen TV, no furniture except beds, 12 hour security only and no paved road.

good to see some smart Khmer's building places to fill the void between down right shit /cheap an expensive.

I just talked to a guy who moved into one of these bungalows and he's really happy. He too said that Mr. Hout is a straight up guy. His garage just got done rebuilding almost my whole aircon system in my ancient Landmonster and did a great job at more than fair price. I wish my landlord was half as nice.

BTW I just drove down the road (same one that goes by CT clinic) and "Kim Chhi Bungalows" has a sign out on the main road now. I told Mr. Hout that Kim Chhi sounds like Korean hot cabbage, but he said its the name of his daughter.
