You see the flag in the film a few times, but not on the moon...so not editing out per se. I don't get it either, but whatever. Great movie and I will see it again in the big cinema to get the full hard on for the launch scenes.Brody wrote: ↑Fri Sep 28, 2018 12:17 pmShit, no flag planting scene?!? That's odd...They could have just edited that scene out for the Chinese box-office if that's what they were worried about.Felgerkarb wrote: ↑Fri Sep 28, 2018 11:59 amPre Screen bootleg.Brody wrote: ↑Fri Sep 28, 2018 9:23 amSo, you've seen the movie already?Felgerkarb wrote: ↑Fri Sep 28, 2018 9:08 am No flag planted on the moon in the movie, I think you guys missed a big part of the first landing.
Loved it overall.
Otherwise I don't understand the decision. What's right is right...and I think the US can safely toot it's own horn with regards to the moon landing. Hell even Strop would agree...I think.

I'd put the lack of flag planting down to growing anti-Team-America-F-Yeah sentiment globally, and wanting as wide a paying audience as possible.
I lived in Carnarvon, Western Australia for eight years, which these days is mostly noted for being one of the Big Dish communications locations for the moon landing and earlier tests. I got to know some of the men who were stationed there and on-the-job for the time arc in which the flight was tracked and managed only from that location. These old timers have nothing but praise and respect for the American launch team, often commenting on their professionalism and courtesy.

I was always a big fan of The Right Stuff. So hopefully there will be some comparable awesomeness.

Yeah, they touched on that for The Right Stuff.StroppyChops wrote: ↑Fri Sep 28, 2018 2:13 pm noted for being one of the Big Dish communications locations for the moon landing and earlier tests.

I'd love to see a movie or short doco about John Glenn. He gets some props in Hidden Figures for showing respect to the women of colour calculators and went on to run the computers, and is very well known for always being an absolute gentleman and to hold equal rights. Probably wouldn't make as much money at the box office though.

According to the old-timers I mentioned earlier, some of the events in The Dish occurred at the Carnarvon site - including the cricket games (which admittedly probably happened at all of the dish sites).Freightdog wrote: ↑Fri Sep 28, 2018 2:32 pm The Dish!

Incidentally, Perth is also known as The City of Lights - during the moon landing flyover the populace was encouraged by radio stations to go outside at night and shine torches up into the sky, and the astronauts reported seeing Perth as a city of lights, and the nickname stuck.

Don't know Carnarvon at all, but if nowhere has a middle it must be there.StroppyChops wrote: ↑Fri Sep 28, 2018 2:13 pm I'd put the lack of flag planting down to growing anti-Team-America-F-Yeah sentiment globally, and wanting as wide a paying audience as possible.
