The boy lives through it all, the death of his parents, the death of his sister, only to die of starvation at war’s end.

Baby Eraserhead's death was unforgettable.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

I read somewhere that the intention of the book's author, was for Seita to symbolize the people of Japan during WWII, how as things got worse, they just kept going and going trying to by willpower somehow make things work, in the end making the whole situation much worsenewkidontheblock wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 8:04 pmHeartbreaking.ItWasntMe wrote:Grave of the Fireflies certainly ranks up there..

Surprised it's not been mentioned yet but Scarface...maybe just too overdone.
Anyway, some others that have stayed with me:
The kerb stomping in American History X
Psycho. Saw it young. Still gets me.
Others mentioned here, Grave of the Fireflies and of course Roy Batty.
But the one that got me most was towards the end of a film I got from a friend, unknowingly. Okay, the title is a giveaway but there's a guy towards the end that made my skin crawl. Executions is the movie. Never want to see it again.

The heart plug.
That was mean and gratuitous, and skipped in the new Dune.
Wicked David Lynch ^^

Only die hard anime fans know of this Takahata gem.
My synopsis doesn’t do justice.
