Re: Gone with the wind
The film was shot in 1939 so frankly, I have to ask: is this an attempt to change/remove history?

Re: Gone with the wind
wait till they go after
"birth of a nation"
"Cannibal capers"
"songs of the south"
"Dumbo"
and did they really pull "cops"
sometimes the doo gooders and those who "always think they are right"
go to far
personally i love the old movies and songs, be they racists or not.
same goes for the southern statues.
its part of american history

Re: Gone with the wind
I might have to defer to our US members for better insights on this but my take out of the movie was that the southern states had grown fat off the back of slave workers and that was the (main?) impetus for the civil war where the northern states wanted to give slaves their freedom. Hence I fail to see what the issue is with the film given the overall positive message it portrays ie that slavery was abominable and could not continue.. not withstanding the stereotypes that may be depicted.Yobbo wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2020 8:37 pmHistory has a habit of repeating itself, specially if we can't be reminded of our mistakes!clutchcargo wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2020 8:23 pm The film was shot in 1939 so frankly, I have to ask: is this an attempt to change/remove history?

Jim Henson permitted a woman to be portrayed as a pig, where will this end in the rainbow connection
Re: Gone with the wind
The cookie monster was clearly a caricature of a 'person of color ' which is just plain unacceptable. As for Kermit, obviously intended to mimic the cartoonish appearance and voice of a Jewish person.....the whole show is a minefield of racism and should be banned forever.

According to 13th, the movie is basically about black men raping white women and the KKK coming to the rescue.clutchcargo wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2020 9:02 pmI might have to defer to our US members for better insights on this but my take out of the movie was that the southern states had grown fat off the back of slave workers and that was the (main?) impetus for the civil war where the northern states wanted to give slaves their freedom. The clips they show seem to support the contention made.
They also say that the movie was one of the key factors in the creation of the post-slavery institutionalised discrimination against black people in the US, which goes as far as suggesting that the slavery movement continues today in the form of the prison system. Again they build a mostly convincing case.
