While we are on the subject of white and black issues ,,,
Should we be teaching our kids with a blackboard using white chalk, or a whiteboard using a black pen .?

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Sure, blacks are to blame for all the things you don't like. This site has become a hotbed of bigoted garbage, it's pathetic and you are one of the worst offenders. It's funny how most of you don't even live in Cambodia.

bit off topic, but i for one would love to **** a bird who speaks like that one at 17.30.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 7:26 amdid you see the film at all?clutchcargo wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2020 9:02 pmI might have to defer to our US members for better insights on this but my take out of the movie was that the southern states had grown fat off the back of slave workers and that was the (main?) impetus for the civil war where the northern states wanted to give slaves their freedom. Hence I fail to see what the issue is with the film given the overall positive message it portrays ie that slavery was abominable and could not continue.. not withstanding the stereotypes that may be depicted.Yobbo wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2020 8:37 pmHistory has a habit of repeating itself, specially if we can't be reminded of our mistakes!clutchcargo wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2020 8:23 pm The film was shot in 1939 so frankly, I have to ask: is this an attempt to change/remove history?
it portrayed the slaves as living a great happy life and the houses slaves were treated as family
totally out of proportion to the realty of things.
watch and compare it to "gone with the wind's" depiction of slavery

OTOH, erasing/demonizing history may not be the best course of action for a society. Surely someone familiar with Cambodian history would get that.John Bingham wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 11:34 amIt's funny how most of you don't even live in Cambodia.

Re: Gone with the wind
How about J k Rowling. A school has just had her name removed from a building that was named after her. She said on twitter that a person who menustrates is a Women and she was berated for it, apparently in some circles using the word "women" is demeaning. She has had death threats, she has been told she will be raped. The person they rejected before offering her the honour was William Wilberforce.General Mackevili wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 1:57 am I keep assuming things can't possibly get any crazier, but they do. Not quite the same, but reminds me of the time a few years back when footballer Ched Evans had his rape conviction quashed when the Court of Appeal found him not guilty. A few footballs clubs looked at employing him, all of whom were threatened. In one case I recall the Chairman of the club was told that if the club gave Evans a job, then his (the Chairman's) daughter would be raped.tightenupvolume1 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 9:34 pmHow about J k Rowling. And with no further installments of the Harry Potter movies to be made, many of the cast who were made famous have turned on her.tightenupvolume1 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 9:34 pmHow about J k Rowling. Re: Gone with the wind
What's wrong with keeping these now offensive movies and TV shows available to watch but simply putting some kind of disclaimer before showing them?
"This film / program is shown in it's original form. We accept that social attitudes have changed significantly since it's production, and we in no way endorse or condone the content which many viewers may find offensive".
We don't ban computer games which depict murder, mass shootings and extreme violence because we accept that people - even kids - can tell the difference between a screen and the real world.
As a gay man, we've had our fair share of terrible treatment and negative portrayals on the screen over the years, especially growing up in the UK throughout the 70's and 80's, but I wouldn't demand that anything be erased from history. It should stand as a testament to see how far we've come.
We should not be wiping the slate clean and pretending the past never happened.

Re: Gone with the wind
I don't see how that has any relevance to Newbie and others blaming everything they don't like on blacks. Apparently the welfare state, gun control and abortion are all black creations. Newbie thought all that up himself, if it bears any relationship with the right-wing consensus in the US that is just a coincidence as he is a free thinker and would never follow other's opinions. He is a true Chinese republican.Big Daikon wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 9:01 pmOTOH, erasing/demonizing history may not be the best course of action for a society.
