People who have volunteered for OUR have raised concerns that it could actually have been creating demand for trafficking victims, by going to foreign countries on undercover “missions” that, at times, have seemed to consist of walking around bars and sex clubs asking for underage girls. The organization's support for law enforcement has at times been wildly exaggerated and involved OUR taking credit for agencies’ operations after making relatively trivial donations, and its much-touted aftercare program for survivors has at times involved things like placing women with unqualified providers and even fabricating a college graduation ceremony.

There is whole stream of videos about the movie, with Jordan Peterson and many other people, but Cazeviel always seems on the edge, nervous, or even crying, all very emotional but also with a stone face expression, a bit weird.

Didn't watched it yet, don't want to spoil it with a shitty CAM video, but i will.

I read somewhere that in the states, multiple cinemas had AC issues for the opening night screening. There was also a lot of empty seats in some, despite being sold out

Yes. It’s ok. But with a whole bunch of moral hand wringing to go with it.

Such as- it shouldn’t be a half-planned exercise, nor the only step taken. As an individual, that is. In terms of a larger organisation…?

So you’ve bought a child. Used your own money or assets to gain their security. What then? Where does the child go? Stay in the same country, and risk being recycled back into the same system? Or do you get a deeper emotional attachment. Both actions at risk of validating the original crime.
How would you handle the onslaught of questions from those authorities that give a damn, and who might view you as a key part of the problem? Or the authorities who display apathy, and dismiss you, if the next step in the plan is to take it further?

There’s an old saying (I’ve no idea how old). You can’t save them all. Where do you start? Where do you stop? How much would you pay? Would you actually be making things better, or worse?

Holy smokes, the FBI just rescued 200 sex trafficking victims in the US, of which 59 were missing children. This was all within 2 weeks time.

Interesting that the movie is also causing a bit of a ruck amongst Hollywood stars. Those supporting the film seem to be Mel Gibson, Denzel Washington, Angelina Jolie and Mark Walburg. With Oprah Winfrey getting caught up in it with regards to her girls school in Africa that's been in the media recently for various reasons. But then it all gets a bit muddled because Angelina has refused to back Oprahs school but others say that's because she's mates with Jennifer Aniston who shagged Brad Pitt.

This Ballard bloke seems like he's either interested in massaging his ego or filling his wallet, possibly both.

With regards to buying a child to rescue them, in general no, I don't think it's good practice. You have to ask why the authorities are not involved, most countries legal systems prohibit trafficking and have systems in place to rescue victims and prosecute perpetrators. They are certainly not perfect in any way but his approach is not discouraging/preventing the practice. It will just fuel the market further.

In situations where a legal framework and/or enforcement is lacking there should be other approaches that are attempted first, like media exposure, advocacy, action from external authorities/organisations. Maybe it's justifiable in extreme, last resort cases but I really don't think it's a viable approach at scale for any length of time.

I think a lot of that is easier said than done. No offence, but it sounds like you're talking about what should be done 'in a perfect world'. I will get around to watching it at some point, but will reserve my judgement until I have.
