36 Foreigners Took an Oath at Supreme Court For Their Cambodian Citizenship

Phnom Penh: 36 foreigners who have been living in Cambodia for so long have swore an oath at supreme court on 01 August 2016 in order to receive their Cambodian citizenship.

The ceremony was organised by five different people, judge, prosecutors and court clerks.

Those foreigners already have their applications accepted and singed by the king of Cambodia, however they have to come to swear in at the supreme court in order to become a Cambodian according to the law of of Cambodia. There were 14 nations among all the foreigners.

14 Chinese, 5 Koreans, 3 Taiwaneses, 2 Indonesians, 2 Singaporeans, 2 Vietnameses, 1 Italian, 1 Thai, 1 Philiphine, 1 Canadian, 1 Laotian, 1 French, 1 English and 1 Malaysian.

ARTICLE 7:
Foreigners may apply for Khmer nationality citizenship by naturalization.
2
Naturalization is not a right of the applicant, but only a privilege of the Kingdom of Cambodia. In any event,
such application may be rejected by discretionary power.
ARTICLE 8:
Foreigners who may apply for naturalization shall fulfil the following conditions:
1. Shall have a paper certifying that he/she has good behaviour and moral conduct issued by the chief of
the commune (Khum) or district (Sangkat) of his/her own residence.
2. Shall have a letter of certification of past criminal records which stated that he/she had never been
previously convicted of any criminal offense.
3. Shall have a document certifying that such person has his/her residence in the Kingdom of Cambodia
and been living continuously for seven (7) years from the date of reception of the residence card which
was issued under the framework of the Law on Immigration.
4. Shall have residence in the Kingdom of Cambodia when applying for naturalization.
5. Shall be able to speak Khmer, know Khmer scripts and has some knowledge of Khmer history and
prove evidence clearly that he/she can live in harmony in Khmer society as well as can accept good
Khmer customs and traditions.
6. Shall have his/her mentality and physical aptitude that will neither cause danger nor burden to the
nation.

I might fail on one or two points there. Does supporting the local industries (drinking alot of Angkor beer and helping ladies in their sub trade that work for such beer outlets) count? :beer2: :downtown:

If you can show receipts for at least $100,000 of beers it will go a long way towards getting your citizenship.

is DUI a criminal offence?
so you need a residence card first, whats the story there.
FYI read somewhere that laos is now doing 5 year for citizenship for some
