Abused girl saved by radio phone-in.
One of the neighbours of a girl who was being severely beaten by her great-aunt, phoned an ABC Radio call-in show to protest. The girl was then rescued by juvenile protection officers and given into the care of the radio station:

“The hospital confirmed those wounds on her body didn’t result from falling down, but from beating,” he said. “I have witnesses, and I recorded their testimony.”
Reached Friday, the neighbor who contacted the radio station said he witnessed Ms. Phally beating the girl at around 9 p.m. on Thursday evening.
He added that community members had known of the abuse for some time, and attempts to involve police had been fruitless.

Girl Remains at Radio Station as Abuse Complaint Lodged
by Ben Sokhean | July 25, 2016 | អានជាភាសាខ្មែរ
A Phnom Penh radio station caring for a 10-year-old girl who reportedly suffered extensive abuse at the hands of her great-aunt filed a complaint against the woman on Friday and has no plans of returning the child to her custody, a station official said.
ABC Radio took the girl into its care on Friday after police in Pur Senchey district’s Choam Chao commune left her with her great-aunt—despite the station’s tip-off about the abuse and the woman’s admission under questioning that she had beaten the child. Investigators found with fresh wounds and bruises on the girl’s body.
Chhel Sovannara, an ABC employee, said on Sunday that the station had filed an official complaint with municipal military police, accusing Sok Phally, 50, of intentional violence with aggravated circumstances. An ABC listener who initially called in the abuse said the girl was beaten with an electrical cord and a stick.
“Yesterday, we brought her to the National Pediatric and Kantha Bopha hospitals…to scan her skull and her whole body, and we paid for her treatment,” Mr. Sovannara said, adding that the scans showed that the girl had been badly beaten and was malnourished.
“She was seriously abused, like her skull had been smashed against a hard object but not split,” he said. “On her ribcage, there was serious bruising, and we also found this on her back.”

by Phan Soumy | July 26, 2016
A woman arrested on Friday for abusing her 10-year-old great-niece was provisionally charged at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Monday with intentional violence against a minor, a court official said.
The woman, Sok Phally, 50, was taken into custody after a neighbor called into the popular ABC radio station on Thursday night and reported that Ms. Phally was beating the girl.
Police intervened the next day and found the child with several wounds, as well as extensive scarring.
The child was removed from her great-aunt’s care and placed in the temporary custody of ABC radio, while Ms. Phally was arrested that evening by municipal military police.
Ly Sophanna, a court spokesman, said the woman was provisionally charged by deputy prosecutor Va Sakada on Monday and would be remanded to the custody of military police overnight and returned to court today to appear before an investigating judge.
