A member of Prime Minister HE’s Bodyguard Unit, who also works as a security guard at Golden Sorya Mall in Phnom Penh, was arrested yesterday for pulling his gun on a colleague during an early morning altercation at the venue in Daun Penh district.

District military police officer Thong Piseth said local gendarmerie forces had arrested the man after the incident at 1am and sent him to their colleagues at Phnom Penh municipal military police.

Piseth acknowledged the suspect was Sum Veng, who was identified by local media as a Bodyguard Unit captain but declined to provide further details about the case.

According to local news reports, Veng and three men, who were intoxicated, clashed with the head night-shift guard when the latter demanded to know why the soldier had brought his friends into the mall’s security office.

Veng – who managed the mall’s day shift, according to a guard at the mall yesterday – pulled his gun from his waist band and attempted to load a bullet though district military police arrived to intervene, according to local media...

HE can't be paying his bodyguards too well if they have to moonshine at the GSM.

GSM is the new Martini's. Gotta love the floor show there, but best to sit with your back to a wall.

PM’s Bodyguard Arrested for Death Threat
An official from Prime Minister HE’s bodyguard unit was arrested at Phnom Penh’s Sorya Mall for allegedly pointing a gun at a security guard there after an argument early yesterday morning, according to police.

Daun Penh Municipal Military Police Deputy Commander Captain Kong Sarith identified Mr. HE’s bodyguard as 43-year-old Captain Sum Veng of the 511th Military Intervention Unit.

Capt. Veng was arrested at the Phsar Thmey III commune mall at about 1:30am after allegedly pointing his gun at Sorya’s chief of security, 37-year-old In Pov.

Capt. Sarith said Capt. Veng was drunk when he and a friend attempted to enter an office inside the mall and were confronted by Mr. Pov, who asked why the captain wanted to enter the room. An argument followed and resulted in Capt. Veng pulling his pistol on Mr. Pov.

“He was drunk and was angry with Sorya Mall’s security guard who stopped him and his friends from entering an office in the mall. He then pointed his gun at Mr. Pov and threatened to kill him,” Capt. Sarith told Khmer Times.

“He is accused with threatening to kill the victim and illegal weapon use,” he added, saying that after Capt. Veng’s arrest, police seized his K-54 pistol, military ID and seven bullets.
After being detained at Daun Penh district Military Police headquarters yesterday, Capt. Veng will be sent to the municipal court for questioning today.
