Phnom Penh: According to ABC News, two Philippines robbed a Cambodian who just drew his 2016 4runner from withdrawing the money from a bank. While he was driving his car, two Philippines have thrown nails under his car which caused flat-tyre. Then, when the owner of the car stopped his car and got out. They tried to snatch the bag from him, but they failed to do it. They were fighting which later police arrived the scene and arrested one of the suspects.

The suspect named Alonso Zose, male, 33 years old. He was driving Click Motorbike with number plate Phnom Penh 1T 3147 while the other one safely escaped.

The victim who would like not to reveal his name said that before the incident happened, around 4:00 pm on 29 June 2016, he went to pull out some money from a bank and when he was driving along Monivong Blvd in the direction from South to North and when he reached a seafood restaurant near Calmett hospital, his car got flat-tyre. So, he stopped the car and went out to check it, then two men on a motorbike stopped their motorbike close to him. They later got off from their motorbike and snatched the bag from him. He was fighting with them. The fight caught attention of the passerby and police which later the police arrest one of them. The arrested suspect is currently detained at Daun Penh police station.

Never heard of ABC News before so I did a search. Found their Facebook page and the above article. It reads exactly the same as the one I came across on nokorwat and translated. Same author I bet and exactly the same title: 'Colombian national used a new trick to rob'
Published and translated before mine.

However what is of more interest to me is ABC's current lead story about an 11 year old who has drowned in Tboung Khmum Province.
He's been covered in duck feathers (carcasses?). I've seen this once before in an article about a man who was struck by lighting.

What is it all about? Why is it being done? (Article doesn't say why)

The images disturb me more than anything I've seen for a while.

He is made to wear the carcass like a jacket (I'm told chicken, not duck. but, whatever . . .). It will make him recover from whatever ails him. However, in this boys case, he was already dead and was beyond help.

^^ That and what you posted elsewhere fills in the blanks, re boiling alive, etc.
Rama at elsewhere wrote:In the comments someone is suggesting it's an ancient ritual. "The duck is boiled alive, the chest is then covered with the duck. If it's done fast enough the child drowning victim can sometimes come back to life."

Nah, don't think so.

I searched my old tweets and found the lighting strike case.

http://www.cen.com.kh/local/14374800

It's a ceremony called ពិធីខាបព្រលឹង

ខាប = to call someone's soul by means of magic formulae or prayers
ព្រលឹង = soul; life, consciousness, intellect; goodwill; health; prosperity. (probably related to Sanskrit liṅga 'mark; phallus; inference.' ) ប្រលិង្គ

That article gives more details and says the ខ្មោច (corpse, ghost, spirit) of the duck is rubbed on the chest of the victim
and then the ceremony is begun/said.

Different province (this is Siem Reap). But I don't think it's related to ducks living on water.

Man Detained for Allegedly Stopping SUV, Stealing Bag

BY BUTH KIMSAY | JULY 1, 2016

A 33-year-old Colombian man remained in detention on Thursday after being accused of stabbing the back tire of an SUV with a large metal spike in order to stop the driver, who had just left a Phnom Penh money exchange kiosk, police said.

The man, Jose Alonso, grabbed the driver’s bag from the front passenger seat and fled the scene with an accomplice on a Honda Click motorbike on Wednesday afternoon, but got caught in heavy traffic, and an angry crowd quickly surrounded them, according to Kann Vannak, police chief of Daun Penh district’s Srah Chak commune.

The pair had been emboldened to steal the driver’s bag after seeing the owner leave a money-exchange kiosk near O’Russei market, Mr. Vannak said.

“Both suspects punctured the SUV’s tire for the purpose of stopping the car so they would have a chance to steal the bag,” he said.

When the owner of the Toyota Fortuner stopped to check the tire, Mr. Alonso opened the unlocked door, grabbed the bag and attempted to flee, he said.

Maybe its time for the title to be updated since it had nothing to do with people from the Philippines.

it was a Colombian man with a Cambodian helper.
