Another tourist dies in watersports accident, Pattaya Bay.

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Another tourist dies in watersports accident, Pattaya Bay.

At 1.30pm on the afternoon of June 4 a Sri Lankan tourist, thirty-seven year old Aloysius Nirmalarajan, was killed in a parasailing accident in Pattaya Bay.

Witnesses claim that after about only two minutes in the air the wind seemed to suddenly disappear because Mr Nirmalarajan dropped and crashed into the boat. He was knocked unconscious and later died from his injuries.

The boat, a Sathaporn SK7, operated by the Siam Local Co, was being driven by forty-eight year old Chamlong Yoosawad who is a naval officer.

City officials say that accidents such as these are harming the image of Pattaya and a meeting has been called to discuss new guidelines that will be implemented in an attempt to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities to foreign tourists in the Bay.

There have been too many watersports and passenger boat injuries and officials believe that a lack of control, untrained staff with poor skills, limited experience and poor standards of equipment are partly to blame...

The driver was a naval officer? Why wasn't he at work?

The newspapers just copy and paste that sentence every time this happens, which is about three times a week.

British Tourist Killed In Pattaya Jet Ski Accident
8 June 2017
A British tourist died on Sunday from head injuries he suffered in a jet ski accident in Pattaya, according to the Evening Telegraph.
45-year-old George McKechnie, a painter and decorator from Kirkcaldy, had been holidaying in Pattaya with a friend and was due to return home on Tuesday.

Details of the accident are scarce as no Thai media have reported the accident with his parent telling the local paper he suffered a serious head injury after being hit by a jet ski.
It is unclear if he was swimming or riding on one himself and fell off or was involved in a collision...

Agreed. They need to implement and enforce a 100m no-go zone, at least.

These clowns come right up to the beach.

It's for that, that they rent the Jetsky....you have to see them. It's not working, if they can't come close to the beach.

I always fint it dangeraus, how Jetskys are used in Asia. They drive them too close, too fast of the areas with swimmers. It's a wonder, that just so less people die in such accidents !

I've watched the activities in Pattaya before. The number of jet-skis, parasails, and banana boats is mind boggling, no way would I get in or on the water there.
