Take Me To the River
Image
Cambodia News, (Stung Treng): At the end of August and the beginning of September, in the rainy season the river is like a road, a good opportunity for timber traders from Kratie province to buy timber No. 2 at O'lang point, Siem Bok commune, Stung Treng province, transporting timber to the neighboring Sambor district in Kratie province every night.
Image
According to the source, an old trader in Siem Bok district was the one who inspired the villagers to cut wood in the Prey Lang area next to Stung Treng province and transport it by truck, dropping it off at people's houses in Siem Bok commune near the river. At night, many boats from Kratie province are moored at the shore, and workers lift the logs on to the boats to take them down the river to Sambor district and Chit Borey District, Kratie Province. In Kratie province, there are Samsung cars waiting to be transport the timber to resell to the target market.

Image
The timber traders in Siam Bok always boasted that other traders could not do business, because a well-known timber trader in Siam Bok has been in agreement with the authorities from the start, and authorities are paid from the top to the bottom of the ladder. The unidentified influential timber trader claims that he has paid the relevant authorities from the grassroots to the provincial level in all institutions and that the money they earn from the timber business goes to help society. Authorities do not intervene in this monopoly of illegal timber traffic, because they want do not want to lose income and with too many traders there would be anarchy.
Image
So, no authorities dare to crack down on the timber trader boss, unless there is an order from the upper class brass.

Keo Seima Locals Cry for Help Over Illegal Land Clearing
Image
Cambodia News, (Mondulkiri Province): According to a source from the community of Andong Kraloeng village, the community living in Oreang district said that the patrol team of Andong Kraloeng village found a machine clearing the forest in Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary in Andong Kraloeng village, Sen Monorom commune, Oreang district, Mondulkiri province on September 22, 2021.

The local people ask the relevant authorities to please crack down or investigate who is clearing land in the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary ? In particular, most of these land grabs have powerful people behind them, so the villagers are helpless.

Image
This is why the community of Andong Kraloeng village urges the director of Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary, director of the Mondulkiri Provincial Department of Environment, as well as all levels of authority under the management and transportation of Mr. Svay Sam Eang, to intervene and suppress the crime of clearing the forest land.
Image
If there is no timely intervention by the authorities, the forest in the Andong Kraloeng village area will be destroyed.
Please also note that there are always trucks smuggling timber from Keo Seima district in Mondulkiri to Tbong Khmum province, but the crackdowns remain limited, and truckloads full of illegal wood are removed from the forest every day.

Parade of Oxen and Tractors in Midnight Logging Trek Through Kampong Thom
Image
Cambodia News, (Kampong Thom Province): Local sources in Kampong Thom say that illegal timber is transported regularly through the province at night by any means possible. Junior officers on duty say that they do not dare to question the transporters, because the timber traders have paid the local professional officers of the Forestry Administration and the environmental officials who manage the area. They say that they are afraid to mention what they see in front of their eyes, so they pretend to see nothing, but that there are regular conveys of illegal wood being trafficked through the region by night.
Image
Image
The junior officials said the most recent example was on the night of December 29, 2021, when seven carts pulled by oxen and farm tractor vehicles were carrying logs from the community forest passed through the port. The convoy was preceded by a motorcycle escort.
The timber was transported through the territory of Santuk district, which is under the jurisdiction of Mr. Mom Sophal, Chief of Forestry Administration of Kampong Thom and the upper level of the three Forestry Administration Sangkats.
Image
Regarding these allegations of stealthy transportation of timber forest products, Nokor Wat News Agency got no answer from Mr. Mom Sophal, Director of Kampong Thmor Forestry Administration on the 31st. Dec., but Bun Sothy, director of the Kampong Thom Forestry Administration, said briefly that he would have his officials investigate whether there were any cases of timber being transported.

Illegal Trafficking Increases in Kratie
Image

Cambodia News (Kratie Province): According to an anonymous source, illegal logs are openly being trafficked around the clock in Kratie province without any law enforcement officers in sight to stop them. Where are the authorities ? The trafficking is going on endlessly and blatantly in full daylight, so the source contacted CEN journalists in the hope of putting an end to this.

The source claimed that the logs were transported by tractors from Prey Long wildlife reserve to sell to the buyers in Sast village, Kompong Cham commune, Sambor district, Kratie province. Then the logs were transferred onto a modified van which was tracted by a pickup to Kompong Cham province.

Concerned citizens request that the higher ranking authorities crackdown and take immediate action to put a stop to this illegal logging.

The real facts are, has long has Cambodia has a tree, illegal logging will not end.
Always "hope" but never "expect".
