Serious question, why do we censor the big guys name but not the Mrs? She seems like someone you wouldn’t want to be caught saying anything bad about. Maybe even more so than him.

I don't think HE's wife has an official title...am I mistaken?

tbh, I'm a firm believer in the idea that if you want to criticise someone, do so...but if you have to sink to the bogan level of attacking their partner or family to get at them..then maybe the problem is with you, not them.

(not aimed at you, kic).

What did they go for this year?

Cambodia's royal oxen predict good harvests this year

Thu, May 03, 2018 - 5:07 PM
[PHNOM PENH] Cambodia's royal oxen predicted a bountiful harvest of rice, the country's biggest crop, as well as corn and beans at an ancient royal plowing ceremony on Thursday.

King Norodom Sihamoni presided over the annual ritual, in which oxen plough a field before being given offerings, held in the southeastern province of Svay Rieng and broadcast on national television.

During the ceremony, which signals the start of the new rice growing season, two oxen ate 95 per cent of the rice and corn on offer and 80 per cent of beans presented in ornate bowls.

Palace astrologers make their predictions each year depending on the oxen's choice of crops and the amount they eat.

High crop yields predicted for 2018
Cambodia expects that crop yields of rice, corn and beans will be better than average this year, according to the prediction of the royal oxen in the annual Royal Ploughing Ceremony held yesterday in Svay Rieng province.

The ceremony this year was presided over by King Norodom Sihamoni and other high-ranking officials who performed the prediction ceremony following ancient customs and announced the beginning of the rainy season.

In the Royal Ploughing Ceremony, the Brahmin priest and astrologer places seven different agricultural products in bowls, which the royal oxen choose from after ploughing three rounds on ceremonial ground.

The products include rice, corn, sesame seeds, green beans, grass, water, and wine. The consumption of each has a different meaning.

Things are becoming serious - the Royal Ploughing Ceremony has been postponed. How will we know what to plant this year ?

Royal Plowing Ceremony in Kampong Thom Province Suspended
AKP Phnom Penh, April 11, 2020 --

The annual Royal Plowing ceremony, planned in Kampong Thom central province this year, will be postponed amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE has recently agreed in principle on the suspension at the request of the National Committee for National and International Festivals.

The annual Royal Plowing ceremony marks the beginning of the crop planting season in Cambodia. According to the tradition, the event is celebrated to predict the upcoming distribution of rainfall, thus rice harvesting, in the country through the oxen’s appetite of paddy rice, corn, bean, grass, sesame, water, wine.

Last year, this traditional ceremony took place in Daun Keo city, Takeo province under the royal presidency of His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia.

Cambodia To Mark Royal Ploughing Ceremony in Kampong Thom Province
AKP Phnom Penh, April 24, 2023 --

Cambodia will celebrate this year’s Royal Ploughing ceremony, which marks the beginning of the crop planting season in the country, in Trapaing Russey commune, Kampong Svay district of Kampong Thom province on May 8.

His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, will preside over the annual celebration.

Senior leaders of the legislative and executive bodies as well as foreign ambassadors accredited to Cambodia will attend the ceremony, to be followed by an agricultural fair.

Governor of Kampong Thom province H.E. Ngoun Ratanak instructed local authorities to prepare a large area that can accommodate everyone attending the royal ceremony, including the parking space.

Usually held in May, the celebration mainly intends to flag up the commencement of rainy season among Cambodian farmers so that they are prepared for their farming, and to pray for bountiful harvest for the year.

According to the tradition, the ceremony is annually celebrated to predict the upcoming distribution of rainfall, thus rice harvesting, in the country through the oxen’s appetite of paddy, corn, bean, grass, sesame, water, and wine.

The celebration of Royal Ploughing Ceremony was cancelled in the past three years due to COVID-19 threats.

In 2019, this traditional ceremony took place in Daun Keo city, Takeo province under the royal presidency of His Majesty the King.

During the ceremony, Governor of Kampong Thom province H.E. Ngoun Ratanak played the role of “King Meak” by guiding the royal oxen and plowing around the Royal Field, while his spouse was “Queen Mehua” by walking behind scattering seeds on the furrowed ground in the provincial stadium.

After the ploughing, two royal oxen were driven to the seven trays containing paddy, beans, corn, sesame, water, wine and grass. The oxen ate 95 percent of rice, corn and bean.

This is a good sign for three main crops’ growing in the country this year, said a Royal Brahmin, calling on Cambodian farmers to be ready to do their farming.
