Comparing the number of public holidays in Cambodia to those in Thailand
Comparing the number of public holidays in Cambodia to those in Thailand
I have never had a business in Thailand because I have always been put off by the requirement to have 4 Thai employees just to get a work permit. But there are also many other ways in which I don’t regard Thailand as being a competitive place any longer to own a business compared to neighbouring countries.
For example I believe the minimum wage in Cambodia is about US$150 per month whereas in Thailand it 300 baht per day which roughly translates to $280-$300 per month so effectively double that of Cambodia.
But now on top of all that there is the holiday issue. Thai employees had at least 3 days holiday in April for Songkran and some had even longer. Then about two weeks later they had another 5 day holiday and lo and behold today is yet another holiday! I honestly don’t know how you can make money in Thailand these days with all the costs involved in having to give staff all these holidays.
How is it in Cambodia? Do employers feel there that Cambodian workers get too many holidays also or is the holiday allocation just right?

It's a holiday here as well today.
I think in the month of May ever week has been a 3 day work week for me mainly from public holidays and 1 day annual
Leave.
You can never have enough public holidays, but from an employer prospective I get where you are coming from.

300 baht/day is ONLY $8.57( 35 baht/$1) so 1 day off a week = around $230/month
I think there are more holidays in Cambodia,
its not the holidays that they are giving thats the problem, its taking the day before ( to get home for the holiday) an the day after ( to get back) that hurt
PS; Americans can fully own a company and need NO THAI's in the company and u can get ur wp as long as ur paid up capital is 2 million baht ( per wp) on paper

which ones? surely not Burma, Laos or CambodiaI don’t regard Thailand as being a competitive place any longer to own a business compared to neighbouring countries.

Its not the number of hours ur employees put in, its the result that comes out that matters.

It is indeed a holiday for the wondrous and auspicious Royal Plowing Ceremony. I'm not sure where it is being held, the park it used to usually be in is still a total mess since the King's funeral.
Anyway, a quick search reveals that Thailand has 22 public holidays this year, while there are 28 in Cambodia. As mentioned above, it's the days surrounding any major holiday that make it difficult. I had a bunch of builders in at Khmer New Year, they disappeared for about 12 days. Actually they completely disappeared and new ones turned up, 12 days later. Great efficiency guys, especially when you knew the deadline.

That is surprising because having worked there, the only holiday I ever had off in the year was Tet afair. I did work for private companies though.Vietnam, 25 :
That's why Vietnam is developing fast I guess.
By comparison, in the teaching English market Cambodia is a real joke. The private schools take as many holidays as possible. The students still pay the same for the term, and the teachers don't get paid. It's Win:win if your an f'in greedy moron that likes to steal and sell your country short while doing it.
