Today is a Holiday ?
One of the kids just sent me a e/mail to say today is a holiday, no school today.. WHY ? Every week seems to have a holiday. School fees for four kids work out very expensive every month when they are only attending school 3 or 4 days of the week. I can see why school teachers are on such low salaries , their life is one big holiday.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Today is May 20 National Wet Sponge Throwing day. Everybody goes to Freedom Park to throw wet sponges at the school directors, and the kids get to stay at home and play with the rats. I cheat. Dip mine in diarrhea.Duncan wrote:One of the kids just sent me a e/mail to say today is a holiday, no school today.. WHY ? Every week seems to have a holiday. Today is Visak Bochea day. (Celebrates the day of Buddha's birth, enlightenment and death. All happened on the same day, but different years).
Next Tuesday is also a holiday. Royal Ploughing ceremony.
The following week, Wednesday is a holiday. International Children's Day.

Why not in one of those deserted villas? If there are any left. Last time I was there (4 years ago) they were knocking them all down and building new ones.kiwiincambodia wrote:Yup, I even took this coming Monday off so I can have a 5 day weekend.Username Taken wrote:Today is Visak Bochea day. I stayed at a place on the main drag as you get to the beach area. It was OK and on the left. It had a rather large new restaurant area. Fairly cheap in comparison (7-8$) can't remember the name.

Re: Today is a Holiday ?
actually the birth, enlightenment and death is not on the same day, just that scholars in later years lumped the dates tgt to commensurate the birth of buddhism and set in motion the wheel of nirvana in anticipation of the next coming of the second buddha. (some translation may not be correct, as it is difficult to translate from chinese scriptures)Luigi wrote:Today is Visak Bochea day. (Celebrates the day of Buddha's birth, enlightenment and death.
