All Sihanoukville Beaches to get Public Access.

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

All Sihanoukville Beaches to get Public Access.

Post by Anchor Moy »

Yes, it's official, even Sokha will be open.(Or what's left of it.) That's encouraging news. For once, things seem to be getting done. Moderate optimism is allowed. :)
All beaches in Sihanoukville must be fully open to public access, including the currently guest-only beach in front of the Sokha Beach Resort, the National Committee for Cambodia Bay Management and Development decided at a meeting on Monday...

Mr. Khon said on Monday’s meeting had helped refine the government’s plan for Sihanoukville, albeit without a time frame attached. Businesses currently closer than 50 meters to the water will be required to demolish their existing structures, he said, but they will be able to rebuild farther away, so long as they do so following new design guidelines...

The area behind Porky's on Ochheuteal has a load of development going on, apart from where everyone has trashed the shrubs ready to move back. New roads going in and Kahuna bar screwed over for access. Don't know how much he's lost on that

And the Rich Resort? How about Queenco? 50M would be mid casino. How about my favorite filthy trashy smelly beach. Yeah, that one where the White Rabbit & Korean restaurants are. At least a dozen shacks. Hawaii.

It's true that there are a couple of interesting phrases there:
albeit without a time frame attached
So, one day, maybe...

This is also interesting :
so long as they do so following new design guidelines.
?? Who's designing the "new" guidelines ? And what are they ? Anyone heard about this ?

this is another 1 of those half cocked attempt at managing a country, when you make all beaches public access, you will lose some investment from companies who liked the beach to be private, and when you lose investment like these, you will lose well heeled tourist.

they should have designate some beaches for private commercialisation and some for public access.
