Hi Jamie

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

This is a personal question I know so no obligation to answer, but I was curious how big the purses are you fight for. Is the prize money worth the sacrifices and as you get older-the risks?

you talking about over here? in cambodia purses are about $75-100, and definitely not worth it (for the money) it costs me more in gym fees and travel costs training for it, it does keep me out the bars though which helps save my money and health, but boxing is a lonely sport, it requries a lot of sacrafices, you cant play boxing
my mate is fighting in Thailand this weekend in Chiang Mai and says his purse is about $80, i was under the impression the pay was better over there, i got told barangs got 10,000bht for a fight, hes recently been over in China fighting and says he was getting $1000 a fight which is much more reasonable

Quite depressing, but it's the only game in town. Good luck to you.

Hard to believe the lady massaging your bruised body or the nurse bandaging up you wounds makes more money from your fight than you do.

Does the loser get anything, or is that only for the winner?

the purse is set, win or lose, the purse is small, the fighters earn most their money by putting on a good show and winning then going into the crowd collecting tips off the crowd, i was at a kickboxing show the other month,
this Khmer guy beat a Thai guy, it was announced after the fight that there was 10 government officials there and they all gave the winner $100 tip each, and then the fighter went out into the crowd and i saw people handing over $10s and $20s to him, he must have earned a good $3-4k from that fight, he was in the crowd for a bout 2 hours collecting tips it was mad,
cant see barangs getting the same treatment though

setup a fight between thai n khmer, make some kind of drama, khmer wins dramatically, then goes into collect tips, and split the tips back stage.
Money is not the problem, the problem is no money
