Goodbye to Phnom Penh’s ‘sleaziest bar’

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

For those who have never been there, since I suppose that those who have, have their own stories to tell:

I'm in one of the most disgusting freelancer bars in Cambodia. "It's like low tide," my Eton-educated companion snidely observes. Gazing out at the flotsam and jetsam of Phnom Penh's expat scene, I'm forced to agree...

I can't copy n paste from the article, but it used to make me shake my head in disgust whenever I would hear people talking about WA being such a sleazy bar that they would never step foot in...except when the joker draw was on...fkn hypocrites!
You mean this :
Despite my propensity for slumming, I'd probably never go to Walkabout if it weren't for one thing: the Joker Draw.
O:-)

Yes, the Thermae in Bangkok in the 80's was in a league of its own. Many fond memories. Its also in books by Christopher G. Moore, and his hero (of sorts) Vincent Calvino.

Some demolition work going on now at the former Walkabou.
Heard some comments that the former inhabitants now infest Candy bar,
Fella likened it to a scene from star wars bar, with a dwarf girl sat up on the bar "like a hood ornament"
LMAO
i would like to see that- but not enough to visit

The Thermae? Like the Grace Hotel coffee shop and The Malaysia - you should have been there in the seventies!

we stayed at the Malaysia hotel in '75,
3 of us shared a room an we all took "Ladies" from Soi Cowboy
what an introduction into Bangkok's night life :-)

Still the therme was sleazier, especially if u entered thru the rear parking lot/back door.

Jag the joker is now held at Blue Tongue according to a sign I noticed posted on the Walkabouts door a few weeks ago...just in case anyone wanted to know.
