Shipping Containers

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

If the container has a roof placed over the top of it to stop the sun heating up the container and it is also lined on the inside they make very nice homes. One other advantage is they can be easily moved if you don't own the land it sits on.

Insulation is the general reason. Actually shipping containers are ill suited to accommodation - they are built for rough handling and seas.. However light-weight site accommodation is cheap and good..

Now a prefab is probably more suitable, and I would like to build.

When using a shipping container for accommodation, you should think of the container as the framework for the building. It still needs insulation and a lining on the inside and outside .Also there are two hights for shipping containers. Standed size hight is 8' 6'' but is best to use the Hi Cube size which is 9' 6''.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

I did like the idea, however a shipping container is for shipping. a site cabin is suited to accommodation.

No, but container markets were a big thing here for a short period a few years ago so loads of these "container markets" sprung up. There were a few around Tonle Bassac and other areas, St 1986 had two that opened and closed within a few months. People can be fickle here and the novelty wore off and everyone stopped going to them. There must be quite a few unused kitted out ones sitting around somewhere unless they just got scrapped. I have a friend who is selling a 20 foot one that is fitted out as a kitchen, lined/insulated etc. PM me if you want details.

Do you know any container home or knockdown home company in Kow ?
In Thailand you can buy a mobile house for less than 200000 thai baht.
